Bleary eyes and slow breaths
Heavy chest and dry mouth
Surrounded by the very darkness that consumes the sky
Protected under shields of cloth
And a soft, squishy companion
Devoured in silence like that of death
Emotions press against your heavy chest
Tunneling their way into your throat
Spreading through your veins like a virus to a computer
Trembling hands and uneven exhales
Hold your tongue in a cage of bone
Even as your lip begins to dance
And rain creates rivers actoss your features
You don't dare interrupt the silence and dark
Of the night that seems to pack years into each moment.
And then it's over;
The clock has changed, the damage was done
The wound is fresh, but it's healing
The plaster above the drywall comforts you
And your curtains whisper goodnight
As you pull your cloth shield over yourself
Your jaw forces itself open
The earth taking a breath back, only to return it once again
As the windows to your soul shut for the last time
And succumb to the darkness that engulfs the sky
