CHAPTER ONE
the new kid hogs the floor
LEIA O'CONNORLEIA AND ETHAN KNEW HERMES CABIN LIKE THE BACK OF THEIR HANDS. After years in one place, you learn the sort of things you would never expect to learn. They knew the best spots on the floor (in the furthest corner, near Luke's bunk, he was always easy to convince when the pair wanted to sneak out), the best time to wake up (7:03am precisely for some odd reason) and even the best way to sneak out so the cleaning Harpies (Leia still hated those, even if the woman that attacked her and Ethan was not the same harpy) didn't snitch on them.
After years of falling in the shadow, it becomes rather easy to slip away and exist singularly. As a singularity, it is so much easier for people to forget you exist, especially when your mother is as insignificant as Psyche. Psyche wasn't a bad goddess per say, sure she didn't send post cards or child support, but she wasn't awful. Leia had been claimed just two months after she stepped into camp, soft coloured butterflies fluttering above her head as Chiron proclaimed Leia the daughter of the Goddess of the Soul, wife to the God of Desire.
Yet, nothing really changed when Leia was claimed. She didn't move into a fancy cabin with all her new found siblings, she didn't get a celebration. Unlike most, Leia was singular, a sole sibling who could only offer herself advice when she really needed it. She couldn't turn to an older figure, who knew the ins and outs of being a child of Psyche. Every mishap was a learning curve, one she endured like how Atlas bore the heavens on his shoulder. At least Atlas had the heavens as a companion, Leia had no one.
Her celebration took the misshapen form of a new pillow from Luke, a 'congratulations your other mum isn't a deadbeat' from Ethan, and a stupid dream haunted by two women she never got to know. She had no siblings, something about her being the first of her kind to ever step foot in Camp Haflblood.
Yet, no one celebrated the once in a lifetime experience of witnessing Psyche claim her only human daughter. Being the daughter of Psyche was useless when she wasn't considered as appreciated as the other Olympians. Leia was just her daughter, no one special.
