FIVE YEARS PRIOR
LEIA O'CONNOR

"OSCAR WHERE ARE YOU?" Leia O'Connor cupped her hands over her mouth, eyes scanning the small apartment bedroom for her younger brother. She could hear his small giggles, muffled by something as he hid from her. "Oscar, come on."

Oscar O'Connor was only three years younger than Leia, four years old, with curly black hair and shimmering auburn eyes. He was the human personification of a mischievous little fairy, glittery giggles from wherever he hid echoing around Leia's bedroom. Ever since he was small, Oscar held a special grip on causing chaos. Oscar was always good at hiding, something his little four year old heart prided itself on.

Apart from the obvious eye colour difference, the two looked like genderbent versions of each other. Dress them identically and they might as well look like twins in some way, shape or form. It felt as though they would be haunted by the image of each other, no matter what. Though, that never bothered them. Oscar adored Leia, and vice versa.

"Oscar!?"

"Boo!" Leia shrieked as she felt someone jump onto her back, falling onto the ground. On top of her, the small form of her brother writhed in a fit of hysterics. Oscar clutched his chest as he heaved, bellows of laughter escaping his throat. She turned over, eyeing him up before also bursting into laughter. "I got you! I got you!"

"Cheater." Oscar stuck his tongue out at Leia.

Times like these, it was easier to just distract a child in the comfort of your own bedroom. Leia's bedroom was a wonderland of butterflies and insects, all branded on the walls in messily done paint splatters, cluttered with dolls dressed in princess dresses and random pieces of lego all around.

It was easier to pretend your bedroom was the world, and that the yelling outside was nothing more than background noise.

Today, it was a bit difficult to think like that.

"I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF IT!"

"YOU CANNOT SIT THERE AND SAY THAT WHEN YOU AREN'T HERE AT ALL!"

"Lele?" Leia furrowed her brows together, moving close to her brother. He sat on her bed, crossed legs, looking up at her like she was the one with all the answers to his questions. Sometimes little brothers looked at their big sisters that way, just because that was how it was supposed to be. "Mama's angry."
