Lauryn's POV

" Oh come on Shane you know that I am a way better shot than you," I laughed as I packed away my clothes that Carol and Lori washed in the river.

" I know you think you're big and tough for being a Marine Laur, but I know I can beat your ass any day with any weapon," Shane smirked while stringing up some frogs to cook over a fire.

" Let's go then, I've got knives, shotguns, pistols, you name it and we can aim at these cans to see who is better," I square up to Shane who is towering over me. I don't care that he is almost a foot taller than me. I can handle myself.

"Quit it you two, sibling rivalry never ends does it even when you are in your thirties... Children," Dale mumbled as he made his way back into the RV.

"Well I know that you can beat Shane any day," Carl stands up next to me smirking at Shane. I love this kid.

Just as Shane was about to retaliate we heard a faint car alarm in the distance. It catches all of our attention and we look to the road to see what is coming. I grabbed my AR and looked through the scope to see a red Dodge Challenger making its way up the mountain. I kept my sight on it following it up the road just in case. The car pulls up to the campsite and Glenn hops out of the truck.

"Turn that damn thing off!" Dale yells at Glenn, " I don't know how!" Glenn smiles while Shane walks over to the car trying to turn it off so it doesn't attract walkers.

A large commercial truck pulls up and parks behind my truck. I kept my sight on the driver's seat even though I couldn't make out who was in the driver's seat. The car door opens and I slowly lower my weapon. I can't believe my eyes. Rick Grimes steps out of the truck wide-eyed and shocked to see who is at the campsite. How is this possible? Shane said he was dead!

"Dad?Dad!" Carl sprints over to Rick who has his arms wide open. Lori starts to tear up making her way over to Rick. They hold each other for a couple of minutes just taking it all in.

As they broke apart I walked over to Rick and my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe my friend was alive! We stared at each other before I tackled him with a bear hug.

"Hey Laur! I found a deer back there, but a damn walker got to it first. Do you want to go back out with me to see if we can find..... who's this?" Daryl walked into the campsite from the woods with his crossbow slung around his back. His smile fell and turned into a scowl when he saw my arms wrapped around another man.

Daryl wouldn't admit it to anyone, not even Merle, but he had developed feelings for Lauryn. Ever since he laid eyes on her, he knew she was something special. She was beautiful in every way to him. She was small barely 5'3", but muscular and could take down someone twice her size. She had this golden blonde hair that glistened in the sunlight. Her eyes were a blue-green that would turn more green when she would get frustrated and angry, and Daryl loved to piss her off just to see her beautiful green eyes. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to protect the ones she loved. There was so much Daryl loved about her even though he had only known her for a couple of weeks. He lies awake at night thinking about how he could spend the rest of his life with her. It could just be the two of them alone in this world and he would be perfectly content with that.

"Daryl this is Rick, I grew up with him and Shane. He's like my brother," I smiled looking over at Daryl who was not amused. Was he jealous? A tint of pink arose to my cheeks at the thought of Daryl being jealous.

Daryl walks over still with a suspicious look on his face as he sticks out his hand. Rick shakes his and nods at him, but Daryl just turns right around and walks back to the campsite.

Later that evening we made a fire to cook up some of the frogs and squirrels that Daryl caught. Everyone was sitting around the fire talking amongst themselves. Rick was catching up with Lori, Carl, and Shane. Dale, Andrea, and Amy were talking about who knows what. Carol was reading a book to Sophia. Everyone else was in their tents sleeping, except Daryl and I. Daryl was sitting next to me staring into the fire. I could tell something was bothering him. I nudge his arm to get his attention and when he looks over at me his eyes soften. I mouthed the words asking if he was okay. He gave me a slight smile and nodded. Eventually, the fire went out due to some rain so we all decided it was time to get some sleep.

Over the next couple of days, we had a walker infestation. Amy was bitten and died. Jim was bit and started to show symptoms of the fever. Rick made the executive decision to go to the CDC. He had heard they might have answers to everything that was going on. If Jim was going to live, the CDC was our best shot.

I packed up the 4runner with mine, Daryl, Shane, and Carl's stuff. Carl wanted to ride with me because he thinks I'm the cool aunt with tattoos. Lori and Rick made me Carl's unofficial aunt since he doesn't have any blood relatives left alive. I only had 3 tattoos and they are all on my left forearm. Of course, I have the Marine seal, along with an iris and carnation because those were my parent's favorite flowers.

"Hey, Laur what do you have in the back here?" Shane asked as he was trying to open the large black case that took up the entire third row of the truck.

"None of your business Shane, leave it alone," I said focusing on the road keeping up with Rick's car and the RV. Shane continued to ignore me as he popped open the case. I know I should have left the lock on that.

"Woah" Carl says scanning everything in the case. 3 ARs, 2 shotguns, 4 small pistols, a variety of different knives, and boxes upon boxes of ammo. There was a smaller case on the floor that held my compound bow that Shane had also opened. Daryl looks back taking inventory of everything I had with a smirk. He turns his head back towards me and wonders how is it possible I find more things to love about her.

"Laur, where did you get all of this?" Shane asks closing the case. " Uh well I have been home for four years, so I have had plenty of time to start a collection. Looks like my collection came in handy," I laughed turning up the volume on an AC/DC CD I put in playing the song "Shoot to Thrill" as we flew down the highway towards Atlanta. I hope the CDC has some answers.
