I sat on the back of Daryl's bike gripping him with my good arm as Rick and Hershel took my truck to the farmhouse. We parked near the grain bins and silos to hide our vehicles. It was incredible that there were no walkers around. Not enough noise and commotion out here to attract them. Even though I couldn't carry my rifle, I was mainly there for support. And because Daryl didn't want me out of his sight.
We were waiting outside the shack that was near the farmhouse when a pickup truck pulled up with Martinez who was one of the governor's best military men, Milton who was pretty much the governor's butler, and Andrea. "He's already inside," Andrea said nodding to the farmhouse. We all looked at each other wondering how the governor got inside the building without us seeing him. That made me worried because there were no other cars here until Andrea, Milton, and Martinez pulled up. This feels like a setup and I was worried for Rick.
Rick nodded at Daryl and me before walking into the broken-down shack. Daryl and I stood guard waiting outside and had a stare-down with Martinez and Andrea while Milton took notes on something who knows what. After a few minutes, I started to walk towards the shack to check on Rick when Daryl grabbed my arm, " Where you goin?"
"I need to check on him. I don't trust Philip. Not one bit," I said and Daryl nodded before letting go of me. I walked in at the right or maybe it was the wrong time of the conversation.
" - I know about the heads, what you did to Maggie... and Lauryn," Rick growled at the governor.
The governor smiled when I walked into the room, " Look who's here! We were just talking about you. How's the shoulder doing?"
I rolled my eyes, " Oh fucking fantastic no thanks to you," I said crossing my arms even though it did cause a bit of pain to my shoulder. " I could have killed you if I wanted to, but I didn't. You and your unborn child should thank me," he sneered.
"I'll thank you when you're dead," I smiled right back at him. His one good eye twitched at my comment. I know that I got under his skin.
The governor laughed, "I'm here for one thing only. Your surrender," he said folding his hand on the table and staring at Rick.
Rick leaned onto the table, " Oh you want surrender? Come get it. You think we hit Woodbury heavy last time?"
"Would you step outside sweetheart? Rick and I need to talk about it," the governor said motioning for me to go out the door. I scoffed at him, "Sweetheart? Nobody calls me that except my husband! You son of-"
"Lauryn, please leave us. I can handle him. We'll talk things out," Rick said softly but keeping his gauze on the governor. I could tell Rick didn't trust him since he didn't want to take his eyes off of him.
I nodded before walking out the door. Rick doesn't need me there, fine I'll stand outside like a bodyguard. "Everything okay in there?" Daryl asked looking at me to see if I was hurt. "Yeah, they kicked me out," I said leaning up against the shack. Martinez snickered and Daryl shot him a glare that could kill.
We heard a walker growl and hit one of the silos. "I'll be right back," Daryl said kissing my forehead before running off with Martinez to kill the walkers. Hershel, Milton, and I stayed by the shack since we were more of the "support" side of the group right now.
"May I ask how you lost your leg?" Milton asked Hershel who sighed at the question. "I was bit," Hershel said.
"So you amputated it to stop the spread of infection. Did you do it yourself?" Milton asked with a little too much excitement.
"No Rick did, and Lauryn here patched me up. Saved my life," Hershel said making me blush.
"May I see it? The scar? To know how far you had to amputate from the bite?" Milton pushed and Hershel had to mess with him.
