Morning breaks with the insistent chime of the alarm clock. Languid and spent, I reach out for the phone perched on the bedside cabinet. My limbs feel like lead, yet a tender smile graces my lips as I redirect my attention to the source of my exhaustion—the blonde beauty lying beside me, her eyes closed but her mind still alert. The alarm's shrill interruption coincides perfectly with our decision to surrender to sleep.

— 'Looks like sleep is eluding us tonight,' — she murmurs, her voice a velvety whisper, her eyes still shielded from the morning light.

— 'Seems that way,' — I reply, enfolding her in my arms. With a gentle kiss on her forehead, I run my fingers through her tousled hair, savoring the quiet intimacy of the moment.

After some time, we managed to coax ourselves out of bed and get dressed. We shuffled down the stairs like weary lizards. Mom was already seated at the kitchen table, flipping through documents and sipping her coffee.

— 'Morning,' — I exhale wearily. She peers over her glasses at us, looking somewhat surprised.

— 'I thought you two would sleep until evening,' — she remarks, a hint of astonishment in her voice at our early rising. I'm taken aback.

— 'Wait, was that an option?' — I respond, now equally surprised. I hear Kara's subdued laughter behind me as she moves past, heading to put on the kettle.

— 'Well, I did tell you to rest. Doubt you managed that overnight,' — Mom quips, continuing to peruse her papers and sip her coffee.

— 'But when Kara disappeared, you still made me go to school,' — I retort, taking a seat at the table and shooting Mom a disapproving look. Kara sits beside me and slides a cup of coffee my way, eliciting a smile.

— 'That was different. If I hadn't made you, you would've just moped around in depression,' — she says calmly, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, prompting me to simply sigh. Kara places her hand next to mine on the table, and I smile, watching as she subtly intertwines our pinkies.

— "So, does that mean..." — I turn my gaze back to Mom, —  "...we can stay home today?"

— "It's up to you," — she raises her hands in a surrendering gesture, then gets up and starts to gather her things. After kissing each of us on the forehead, she rushes off to work, leaving us watching her go.

— "And now... what shall we do?"

I turn to Kara, raising my eyebrows playfully with a mischievous smile.

Of course, we immediately collapsed into bed. I hugged my sweetheart from behind, just the way she likes it. Nestling as close to her as possible and getting into the most comfortable position imaginable, we drifted off to sleep blissfully.

After sleeping for about seven hours, we woke up not so much because we were well-rested, but because of hunger. I thought about ordering something, but Kara peeked into the fridge, grabbed various ingredients, and started cooking.

— "Um... Will something tasty come out of this?" — There were eggplants, tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese on the table.

— "Well, we won't know until I cook it," — she replied with a smile, rolling up her sleeves and getting to work.

— "Need any help?" — She looked at me in surprise. —  "I'm just asking for the sake of it, hoping for a negative answer," — I mused aloud. She laughed and continued chopping the ingredients swiftly. She took out an apple for some reason and began to do something intricate with it using a knife. — "Now I definitely don't believe something tasty will come out of this..." — She smiled at me again and finally, after creating something very beautiful with the apple, handed it to me.
