"Skylar, do you want some tea?" Zac comes into my room with a mug and a big chocolate chip cookie.

I nod, rubbing my feet against my fuzy pajama pants. "Thanks, Zac."

He nods, sitting on the edge of my bed. "Can we talk?"

"Sure." I say, taking a sip and letting the burning hot liquid slip down my throat.

"There's something you're not telling me. And I'm worried about you. I don't know what's been going on with you lately. Ever since we started school here, you've walked around with this look of dazed happiness on your face.

"And the way you walk, it's different. Like a little kid who just learned to ride a bike. That look of triumph and pride that you did something no one else can do. Or you know some secret that changed the world around you. But it's gone. It's shattered. Now, you just look depressed."

I look at him with awe. He's good. "I do know a secret. A secret that changed not only how I see someone, but how they see themself. And it makes me feel so great that I did that. That I changed how that person sees the world. I'm proud of myself."

"And I'm proud of whatever you did, too." Zac says, playing with the sheet of my bed. "And that's great and all, but what happened to THAT Skylar? That Skylar was so different. The one who seems happy. That day you came home after the night in the school during the storm, I could see the dazed happiness in your eyes again. And I'm thinking that this Shawn person has something to do with that. Am I right?"

I just stay quiet, staring at the bedspread.

He stands up and walks to the door. "I think I know what's happened to you. I've seen this many times before. You'll be sixteen soon, though you're still a freshman, but I think you're old enough."

"Old enough for what?" I ask, confused and anxious.

"You're in love."
