*Phil's POV*
What I was met with made me tear up.
In the middle of the clearing was a small pond, maybe five metres across, probably about three metres deep in the middle. The water was blue and beautiful, sun sparkling on the rippling wake, a natural stream emptying into it. All around it were large, luscious oak trees. They looked strong and healthy, just like Dan. On the opposite side of the pond was a checkered blanket and a picnic basket. Along the edge of the pond were stones - some large enough to sit on, some small enough to skip, some in between.
A tear slipped down my cheek and I brought my hands to my face. I felt Dan place his hand on my shoulder and I spun around to face him.
"It...It's beautiful..." I choked out through tears.
"I did this for you." he smiled.
I hugged him tightly. "I'm so sorry, Philly," he whispered into my ear.
Much to my dismay, he pulled away. "Now, though," he said happily, "we have some food to eat. I brought you ham and swiss on rye, and strawberries, your favorites. I also managed to get my hands on some Ribena..."
My eyes lit up at Ribena. I skipped over to the blanket and pulled out a plate and my food. "Thank you so much, Danny!" I squealed.
He blushed at the nickname, but sat down to eat anyway. We ate with no silence, talking and laughing like we used to. Dan cleaned up when we were done and led me down to the pond.
I backed up when I realized his intentions. "No, Dan, I can't swim."
"Relax, Philly, I've got you." Dan smiled and looked into my eyes again and I just had to comply. He reached into the basket again and pulled out two pairs of swim trunks. "I hope these fit," he said, handing them to me.
They did.
We walked towards the pond again and Dan jumped in eagerly. He paddled back over to me and reached for my hand. I had forgotten we weren't dating, because he was acting like we were. It kind of made me feel weird, but a good kind of weird. I took his hand and walked into the water. Soon I was at eye level with him.
"Philly, you've got to learn to tread water so you can at least keep afloat. Watch me." Dan showed me how to tread, which seemed easy enough. I tried it, and for a good forty five seconds it worked. Soon, though, I got a little overzealous and exhausted myself. I looked around frantically for something to hold onto, but I was too far out. My attempts to call for Dan were in vain, as I was already underwater by the time I could make a sound.
