The New Girl (Fairy Tail Fanfic): Chapter 8: Fluster Buster
Elaine's POV—
I got in a ready stance and started bouncing a little on my feet, "Ready when you are."
Erza lunged at me, her right leg propelling her forward with a force that made the ground tremble slightly beneath her. Her scarlet hair whipped behind her like a flame as her fist shot toward my face in a sharp, hooked punch.
I reacted quickly, raising my left forearm to block the hit, the impact reverberating through my arm. Without hesitating, I jumped, using the momentum to push off her. Both my legs landed squarely on her shoulders, and with a twist of my body, I spun us both in the air, releasing just in time to send her crashing to the ground.
We both landed gracefully, in perfect balance, our eyes locked for a brief second before charging at each other again, fists flying.
Punch. Dodge. Block. Kick.
I could feel the intensity rising between us as we exchanged blows, each movement faster than the last. My muscles ached from the rapid pace, but I ignored the strain. I darted forward again, this time sliding under her legs before she could react. I swept my leg out, kicking her thighs and sending her sprawling onto the ground with a heavy thud.
A light-blue Magic Circle appeared next to Erza, declaring: Erza Scarlet Status FAIL
The crowd watching us erupted into murmurs of surprise, and I heard a few "ooooo"s.
I stepped forward and offered her my hand. "Need a hand?" I said, trying to mask the exhaustion creeping up on me.
Erza smirked, taking my hand and pulling herself up. "Very good," she said, brushing the dirt off her armor with a grunt. "You finally beat me this round."
"Whoa! That was some fight!" Lucy called out, walking over with Wendy and Mira close behind.
Erza rotated her shoulders, wincing slightly. "You're getting creative. Good moves this time—more acrobatic than usual."
I shrugged, a smile tugging at my lips. "Had to change things up a bit."
"You were incredible, Elaine!" Wendy said, her eyes wide with excitement.
I laughed sheepishly as the rest of the guild gathered around. "It was just one out of five matches. I still have a lot of work to do."
Erza nodded, smiling in approval. "You're improving faster than you realize. Soon enough, we'll be able to meet swords."
The idea both thrilled and terrified me. The thought of standing toe-to-toe with Erza Scarlet in a real swordfight was like staring down a mountain—challenging but exhilarating.
