The New Girl (Fairy Tail fanfic):
Chapter 3: A Distant Heart

Third person POV--

The morning at Fairy Tail had just begun, and the usual chaos was already brewing at Team Natsu's table.

"AAAAAAH!" Natsu's loud, exaggerated yawn reverberated through the Guild. He stretched so hard it looked like his limbs were about to pop off. His recent training regimen, which he had been stubbornly pushing himself through since the Grand Magic Games, had taken a toll on him, but no improvements were coming fast enough for his liking.

"Shut up, will ya?" Gray muttered from across the table, his face half-buried in his arms. He glared at Natsu, clearly annoyed by the unnecessary noise.

Little did Gray realize—or perhaps he did but didn't care—that his pants were once again missing.

"Mind your own business, Perv." Natsu shot back, noticing the situation but choosing not to comment. It was, after all, a common occurrence.

Just as another argument was about to spark between the two, Wendy Marvell, Fairy Tail's Sky Sorceress, approached the table with Carla, her white Exceed companion, hovering beside her

Just as another argument was about to spark between the two, Wendy Marvell, Fairy Tail's Sky Sorceress, approached the table with Carla, her white Exceed companion, hovering beside her. "Good morning, everyone," Wendy greeted with her usual cheerful demeanor. "Have you seen Lucy-san or Elaine-san around?"

The group collectively shook their heads.

"No, they haven't shown up yet," Erza replied, taking a dignified sip of her tea.

Wendy's shoulders slumped slightly. "I really wanted to meet Elaine-san. I've heard so much about her, but the job took longer than expected."

Carla added with a sigh, "Next time, we are not doing a clean-up job at a tar factory." Her usually pristine white dress had a few stubborn tar stains left over from their latest mission, and nobody had the heart to point it out.

"Elaine is really nice!" Natsu chimed in. "Happy sure likes her."

"She's really sweet!" Happy twirled in the air above their heads, spinning in cheerful loops.

Levy, overhearing their conversation, wandered over to join in. "She's also really smart! We talked about books for a while—she's definitely a fellow bookworm," Levy said, a bright smile on her face.

"And she carries herself with grace. She's beautiful without being conceited," Erza added with her usual sense of nobility, crossing her legs and taking another bite of her leftover cake from the day before.

Wendy looked around at her friends, feeling reassured by their positive comments, but she noticed one person hadn't spoken yet. "What do you think of her, Gray-san?" she asked curiously.

Gray was staring off into space, clearly not paying attention. His daydreaming was cut short, however, when Natsu decided to get his attention the only way he knew how—loudly.
