The New Girl (Fairy Tail fanfic):
Chapter 7: First JobElaine's POV—
When I woke up, the scent of the briny sea air from Magnolia filled my senses, grounding me in the present.
Magnolia... Fairy Tail...
I had to remind myself that this was home now. It was strange—before all of this, I had been so focused on leaving the Estate, eager to escape its walls and see the world. But after everything that had happened, after losing my parents, I realized just how much I missed it. Missed them. I would give anything to go back to that time when they were alive, when everything felt whole.
The memory wipe my parents had performed was slowly unraveling, like a thread coming loose from an old tapestry. The pieces of my old life were drifting back to me, but they didn't bring the joy they once had. I remembered the desire to leave my home, to explore the world beyond the walls, but I never imagined that leaving would mean losing it forever.
Now, I clung to the memories of my childhood Estate—the endless fields of lavender, the gleaming white pillars, and the gold trim that made it feel like something out of a dream. That was my world, but now it was my past. It was gone, and so were the people who made it home.
Still, I was grateful. Grateful that in this new life, in this strange new world, I wasn't alone. Magnolia and Fairy Tail were full of friends—people who cared, who fought beside me, who would be here in the moments when I felt weakest. They couldn't replace what I'd lost, but they were something to hold onto in the darkness.
This was home now.

My fingers twitched as something kept tapping against my window—light, persistent, like pebbles or a bird. I groaned, lifting myself up slowly, still half-asleep. "Coming..." I muttered, rubbing my eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep.
I stretched, my toes curling against the timber floor, enjoying its coolness beneath my feet. Half-dazed, I stumbled straight into the bed frame, sending a sharp jolt of pain through my toe. *Great, real life has officially begun*.
Shuffling to the balcony, I opened the window, and there they were—Lucy, Wendy, and Erza, all dressed, alert, and suspiciously awake. Unlike me.
I inhaled deeply as the breeze hit my face, bringing with it the warm, inviting aroma from the bakery across the street. The smell of rose macarons wafted up, and I could see the baker's son lugging a sack of flour that looked way too heavy for someone his size.
"Welcome back!!" the three girls chorused, grinning up at me. Lucy held a to-go cup of tea, Wendy had a bagel, and Erza, of course, offered a practical muffin, no doubt thinking it was the healthy option.
