RUDY GRACE SILVER
Ethan left.
He didn't even come up with an excuse as to why.
I should have known better.
The mate bond is a blessing and a curse.
"You're sad." a male voice says from behind me.
I whip my head around to find Uncle Parker leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.
"I didn't know you were visiting." I say, trying to calm my racing heart.
His eyes narrow slightly but it isn't threatening. He's curious.
"What's making you sad?" he asks, not moving from his spot at the door.
"I found my mates." I speak.
He frowns slightly before asking, "That makes you sad?"
I'm surprised he didn't ask questions. Everyone else has.
Everyone else doubted me.
"I have two mates, Uncle Parker. Twin's. They.... it's.... hard. I don't know how to deal with it. I'm seventeen so it's not normal for me to have found them. Plus, I have two mates. And there both so different. Carter's nice but he seems to be holding back and I think it's because of Ethan. And Ethan is... not... I don't know." I take a deep breath after my outburst.
Uncle Parker just stares at me. He doesn't say anything and a part of me wonders if he even comprehended what I said. Then to my surprise, he responds.
"You're not happy to have found your mates?"
I try not to roll my eyes and be patient. Uncle Parker hasn't spoken to me this much since I was very young.
"I am, I just, it's weird." I speak.
He cocks his head to the side, "Who told you it's weird, your parents? Do they even remember their own story?"
I laugh slightly, "I wonder sometimes."
He sighs, "Don't take for granted that you found your mates so soon. Pity those who have no mate at all." he says.
I'm suddenly reminded of the fact that my uncle is thirty-seven years old and mate-less.
Your supposed to find your mate when you turn eighteen.
My aunt Jude was also late to finding her mate. She was twenty-four when she found out her mate lived in a neighboring pack. His name is Ben.
But Uncle Parker never found his mate.
I glance at the doorframe but not surprisingly, he's not standing there.
"What are you doing in here all alone?" Aunt Jude asks, taking her brothers spot.
"Nothing. I was just thinking." I answer.
"Thinking...?" she pushes.
"Nothing." I say, walking past her out of the room.
I felt bad slightly. Me and Jude weren't particularly close, but we still talked.
I was closer to Colton now, although I used to be closer to Parker. But we all know how that turned out.
I open the front door and run into the woods. Once I'm fully secluded by trees I shift.
I let Ellie go where she wants to. Run where she wants. She doesn't like being disrespected, especially by the people who are supposed to be her other half's.
A twig snaps in the distance making Ellie instantly go alert.
She stops, glancing around, listening for any threats.
Another twig snaps, much closer than before.
Ellie realizes our Alpha scent and lets out a low warning growl.
A pair of wolf eyes makes its self-known in the trees and Ellie growls again.
Then the scent of the rotten eggs hits my nose making my stomach twist in disgust.
Rogue.
I let out a howl, warning my pack of the threat.
The wolf pounces, either not scenting or not caring of my status.
We roll around in a series of growls, scratches, teeth, and blood.
I know I'll win this fight, I'm stronger, but I don't want the rogue wolf dead.
Not yet at least.
I pin the wolf down and bare my teeth to the Rogue-she-wolfs neck, trying to make her submit.
Another wolf, from our pack, crashes into me, knocking me off the rogue completely.
I'm shocked that the wolf pays me no mind but goes to the other wolf.
I stand and start to walk toward them but the wolf from my pack growls at me.
I lift my snout and get a whiff of the scent.
Trying to place it but it's not fully released.
The brown wolf bares its teeth at me again as I walk closer.
The scent hitting me at full force.
Parker.
A howl sounds in the distance, informing me that my pack is on the way and coming to help.
A whimper comes from Parkers wolf as the Rogue growls at him, yet he doesn't back away.
A growl comes out but this time it's not from Parker or the Rogue wolf.
I turn around to find Carter's wolf running toward me.
"Don't attack." I command Carter and Juno.
I inhale the familiar scent of Vanilla, gaining comfort from my mate's scent.
Juno comes up beside me and rubs his head into my side.
"Are you alright, love?" Carter's voice erupts into my mind.
"I'm fine." I reassure him.
Parker shifts into his human form and drops to his knees in front of the rogue.
He doesn't say anything, just bows before the wolf.
"What is he doing?" Carter asks.
"I have no idea." I answer.
My parents' wolves and a few others from the upper circle sprint toward us.
Parker jumps up and steps between our pack and the rogue.
My mother shifts into her human form but the rest of the pack stays in their wolf forms.
"Parker, what is the meaning of this?" mom asks.
Parker just shakes his head and glances in between the rogue and his sister.
My dad shifts into his human form and stands beside my mother.
"By the scent, it's a rogue, take it to the cells." my dad commands.
A few pack guards shift and go to follow orders, but my mom holds up a hand signaling for them to stop.
"Parker?" She says, quietly.
"She's my mate..." parker raps out, falling to his knees in a sob.
