Renar ran inside his room and immediately went inside his new personal bathroom, a shame he'll dirt it.

"How disgusting..."

He stuck two fingers down his throat and vomited as much as he could, to get rid of any germs or DNA from Devland's shoes.

"Phew..." He got up and carefully brushed his teeth, then took a shower.

'This day was terrible...but also lucky, I suppose. In the end I wasn't killed today, but Devland could just do something like that any other time at this point...but that's not the only problem, because in 4 years Devland and all those who work with him will die.'

Yes, Renar had another obstacle in front of him, and this one was certainly less avoidable one.

'Towards the story's end, the female lead gets kidnapped by Devland. However, within 24 hours, she was found safe and just slightly injured. But what really shocked everyone is that Devland's intent is not to forcefully marry her or sexually use her, but only to torture her.'

Renar also remembered quite well all the scary objects found inside his residence, mainly whips, thumbscrews and even the rack. This simply further demonstrated how mentally unhealthy Devland was.

And needless to say that he, along with all the people under him were not let go after the horrible crime, were ironically tortured for quite some time, and then the male lead proceeded to exterminate every single member of the Mors's family. It was the most brutal end, but for a villain like him it was more than deserved.

'Yes, no wonder the punishment was so brutal, the female lead will be an important pillar of peace, in fact the name Catherine Bechtel will be recognized not only in Diell's empire, but throughout the world.'

She was a gracious and generous woman who at the same time never hesitated to save other people despite her status as the daughter of a ruined nobleman, this was the much-loved female lead.

"I'm starting to feel guilty..."

The fact that he hadn't even given a single thought to anyone else but himself in this situation was getting to him, especially since he knew how it would end for everyone in this residence and the inevitable trauma of the female lead.

"Yeah, not only she will take a long time to recover from the trauma, but she won't be able to use her divine powers due to the shock for quite some time."

Renar was conflicted about the whole situation and began to seriously think about the nature of Devland's obsession, but no matter how much he mulled it over, nothing made sense.

'Devland wasn't in love with her at all, so why was he so fixated on her? It was repeatedly emphasized how much he despised too imprudent and innocent people, and the female lead perfectly fits that description.'

Of course he had thought about the possibility that he was interested in her divine power, but Devland was not the type to want help from people who have ties with the imperial family, he literally just didn't like them at all, not even caring about how their powers may help him.

But if nothing came to his mind then there was no point in thinking about it too much, he and Devland were too different to even understand each other, so if he wanted everyone to survive there was only one way.

"Making sure Devland doesn't obsess over her will not only help the story move forward more easily, but also ensure that no one gets hurt. But how? I don't think that'll be easy."

In fact there weren't many ways, Devland showed himself quite rarely in public, but where it was necessary he was always present, such as in the celebrations of imperial festivals, business discussions and some of the noble's birthdays (who are not related to the imperial family) even if Devland was not a good person he was overall a responsible noble when needed.

And unfortunately, Devland and the female lead will cross paths at one of those events where he had to make an appearance—the celebration of the empire's birth, specifically in the grand hall where the Emperor will introduce her for the first time as a Saintess.

"That fateful meeting will be inevitable, so the only way is to make Devland improve as a person, but it's not something I can do easily, if not at all...but still, I think it's an achievable goal only if done gradually."

The only thing Renar was aware of was Devland's habit of killing anyone who came as a spy from the Imperial family and the not so generous or merciful treatment given to all his secretaries and subordinates in general.

'Well, it would be a good start to improve that part of him, if I can reach the most competent secretary position then I will be able to have direct influence on Devland's work. That way maybe I can make him more emotionally aware or just a better boss I guess.'

It was the same process Renar had to undergo with his younger sisters, once highly irresponsible and influenced by their parents. Yet, through his role as a "loving and responsible guardian" they transformed into diligent and sociable women.

Renar always saw it as his duty, and now if in this situation he was the only way to make Devland improve, it wasn't responsible of him to back out.

'Well, from now on I will be diligent only about this!'

He fell asleep more motivated, even if he didn't know what awaited him the next day.

The sun was already up and strong, it helped Renar get up early for his first day at work, the time he had to get up every day was five in the morning, it was written in the contract.

'I wouldn't mind the request if we actually had the chance to sleep before midnight. But as far as I know, nobody here hits the hay before 1 am. No wonder everyone has those terrible dark circles under their eyes.'

Renar was naturally a morning person in his previous life. Initially, in this new body it was quite the opposite, but gradually he reverted to his habits.

So his frustration stemmed from Devland's disregard for others' normalcy compared to himself.

"Yes, that would also definitely be an aspect that could be improved. If he realizes that not everyone in this world is made for him then that would help."

He put on his formal clothes, already placed inside the wardrobe, and immediately left his room, this time he parted his hair in half, they were tidy but surely a bit too wavy.

"Good morning, Lord Renar, I see you are already up." Said Claude, who had left his room at the same time as Renar.

"Good morning, Lord Claude. Well, the number one rule in any job is to always arrive on time."

Claude looked at Renar weirded out.

'Oh right...this isn't an actual saying here.' Now he was more than embarrassed.

But Claude still didn't seem too bothered and forgot about it the moment he realized how lucky he was finally becoming, because all the previous secretaries who had been killed or fired never got up early, because they were not used to it, or simply out of nervousness.

The two entered Devland's office, and he was already there working.

"Greetings, Your Grace." The two said in unison, they were both a little early.

"Where are the other two?" Devland asked, his eyes on some documents.

"They're coming, Your Grace." Claude said, walking towards the small table near Devland's desk, and Renar was following him.

"Lord Claude, which of the four seats can I—"

"Hey Your Grace we're here!" A voice from behind said, along with a bang from the door.

"Adam, lower your voice, for Lord's sake." The one next to him said coldly, hitting him on the head.

Renar looked at them for a few seconds and bowed.

"I shall give my greetings to Lord Jett and Lord Adam. My name is Renar Borgia and I'll be working here from today."

Renar peeked a little at their faces and almost raised an eyebrow, 'Why are they staring at me like that...?'

Who knows if his first official day as secretary will be threatened by these two figures.
