"Your current task is to decline the invitations from the nobles listed on the documents I gave you yesterday. Did you bring them with you?"

Claude said, guiding Renar to his seat full of letters.

'Wow...I didn't expect so many letters to be honest. But nevertheless, Devland remains a Grand Duke wielding formidable influence, despite his...distinctive personality.'

"Ah no, I have learned everything there is to know, don't worry, Lord Claude."

Claude nodded and then turned to look at the other two secretaries with a proud look, as if bragging. Adam chuckles as if to tell him something and sits down on the seat next to Renar.

'Ah...so he'll sit next to me from now on.'

Adam Apopis, currently the youngest (and loudest) among the quartet of secretaries that work for Devland, he comes from the esteemed Apopis lineage, a longstanding Marquisate steadfastly aligned with the Mors dynasty for centuries.

Renar peeked over Adam's desk, 'Ah, so he is a financial secretary, I never would have guessed.'

He was able to tell right away because that was just one of the many tasks he had in his old life. He always had to do lots of other things too, but that was mostly because nobody could stand working under such a CEO.

So he basically was an all-rounder.

But since now he had the easiest task on his hands he couldn't be slow while replying to invitations, of all things.

"Hey hey, yesterday I heard from some maid that you were about to see the heavens, how did you convince His Grace not to kill you?" Adam whispered sneakily, again.

"Lord Adam. You have no time to waste." Renar said for the umpteenth time, not even time can stop Adam, in fact he has been asking these kinds of questions all day.

He managed to stay focused, but it was frustrating to hear the same question, phrased differently, every thirty minutes for an entire afternoon.

But since Renar finally finished to reply to all the letters, he managed to get up and walk away from Adam and his questions.

"Lord Claude, I have answered all the letters as requested."

Claude raised his gaze and stared at the entire stack of letters in Renar's arms, "You did well today, Lord Renar, since you're done now you can go back to your room."

'Already? I know they don't trust me very much yet, but look at the incredible amount of work they have, and it's almost 10pm!'

"Lord Renar?"

"Ah...since all of you still have so much work left, can I help?" Renar had nothing to do, he couldn't even roam around anymore like he did in his family's residence. All three secretaries turned and looked at Renar for a few seconds, and then stared at each other, while Devland was ignoring them.

"I'll take him, I need his help in making sure the salaries are well distributed!" Jett said in a serious but firm voice.

"No! I need him to help me check the records of the financial transactions made some months ago!" The youngest didn't hesitate to say.

"Stop it! I need him to help me decide which territory to purchase and use for the new project!" The most exasperated exclaimed.

However, a dark aura could be felt coming from the Grand Duke, who wasn't resting either.

Everyone turned silently to him, waiting for him to speak.

"Know this: I have no patience for pointless arguments. And from now on, if none of you value your lives, I might just have to step in to help." His smile was chilling, a clear indication that he was ready and in the mood to kill.

So the three turned to write and read in their respective papers, while Renar simply stood, waiting for Devland to take his eyes off him.

"Look, since you like working and being my shadow so much, take the letters you responded to down and give them all to Liora." Devland said with a smirk, finally looking at his documents.

"As you wish, Your Grace." Renar grabbed all the letters and barely left the room while carrying them.

'I didn't think they were this heavy!' But now he had no choice, he had now many stairs in front of him to climb.

And when he finally arrived he was greeted by a seemingly surprised face. "Lord Renar, what are you doing?" Liora asked with a puzzled look, "Why are you carrying the letters?"

Renar could barely see her face, he was too covered in letters, "His Grace ordered me to bring them here to you..."

The old lady looked at him with almost amusement, "Is he bullying you? I didn't expect that."

Renar froze at that, 'Bullying?'

"That's the work of the maids, who even use a trolley specifically to go down the stairs, don't tell me His Grace sent you from the third floor like this."

'Ahh...this bastard...did he send me to fight for my life just by going down the stairs for his entertainment or what!?'

But not that he could actually expose his mortal thoughts, "Hahaha, it seems like that's what happened..."

She sighed, "Don't worry Lord Renar, I'll show you the cart used by the maids, next time just ask for this specific one if His Grace bullies you again and you'll have it easier." She walked away to get it, leaving Renar trapped with all those letters. Renar's balance wasn't even good, so he tried to stood while swaying from side to side.

'Today everything went reasonably well for me, too bad I had to get bullied by him. But really, bullying sounds too odd...it doesn't suit someone like Devland, if I knew he usually has to act like a kid to live I would've been more careful while talking to my new collegues.'

"I am back, this is the cart I was telling you about," Liora said, dragging it, "as you can see there is an extended version of the traditional stamp used by the Grand Duchy since ancient times. If His Grace gives you such orders again feel free to use it to bring the letters to me, even though you already did a good job in carrying them all the way here."

"Thank you for saying that, altrough I will try harder in the future. Now if you don't mind I'll go to my room to rest. Goodnight."

Liora turned her back and walked away with the cart, "Goodnight."

Even though Renar was satisfied with the work he had done, he was quite exhausted. Devland was indeed much worse than his old boss in terms of behavior, but the good thing was that he knew of some future events that would ruin Devland's personality and image even more.

'Yeah, to be honest it's hard to put a timeline, but one thing's for sure, the ones I know aren't even half of them.' Renar knew it was about three years before the beginning of the story, he expected so many things unknown to him will happen.

But he was aware that he could do nothing about it, so all he could to do was make Devland trust him and then become his personal segretary, and after that he would have the possibility to slowly improve him.

'But it seems that the concept of a personal secretary does not exist here, in fact Devland was taking care of his entire schedule and even his connections.'

But the good thing was that Claude, Jett and Adam played very specific and important roles. All Devland lacked was indeed a personal secretary, and it would not have been difficult for Renar to become one before the beginning of the story.

'Ah, I can finally rest my back.' He didn't even know how he managed to take a shower in that state, but the important thing was that he could sleep. A pity that he didn't have the same stamina as his previous body, in fact he had never fallen asleep so quickly.

But unfortunately there weren't sweet deams waiting for him.
