'Sigh...I never imagined it would take me this long with Lady Stuyvesant, now everyone is staring at me even more.'
Renar was walking through the ceremony hall after entering through the less conspicuous door, looking for Devland.
'I would have liked to interact with more people, but doing so now would make my intentions too obvious. Luckily Lady Stuyvesant is a special case.'
By 'special case' he refers to her extremely reserved nature, she didn't interact with people she didn't like or weren't powerful enough.
She's basically like Devland, but better.
But at least Renar will have the chance to gather more people together next time he gets the chance. But that wasn't really on his mind now.
He felt uncomfortable, almost suffocated, even though he had this kind of experience from his past life, he never had so many stares on him at the same time, with so many people whispering about him.
But that presence sure stands out.
He almost smiled. 'Ah, finally found him.'
He felt the tense air lighten around him, it was almost a relief to see Devland. Not that it's strange though, after spending all and every day with Devland, even sleeping in the room next to him, he can't help but feel more comfortable around him, same thing goes for his colleagues.
Besides Devland was so easy to notice that it put Renar at ease, undoubtedly he is the most radiant even as a reputed villain.
He was standing near a huge window, with his little brother not too far from him.
Renar approached him, he couldn't talk too much with people around. He curtsied first. "Your Grace, I have finished my walk in the Imperial garden. Did I make you wait too much?"
Devland got the message. "No, you didn't, we should go now."
"?! Your Grace, we should stay a little longer, don't you think? It's too early..."
Devland looked at him amused, raising an eyebrow. "His and Her Excellency are too old to stay here so late."
'Well, that's definitely not his reason, he literally agreed to leave around 12am, but it's only 10pm...'
He thought about it for a few seconds, coming to the conclusion that there was no need to be too worried. Indeed, for Renar, Devland was no longer so unreliable anyway. Besides he always left way earlier than that, so this was still a good achievement regardless.
Not that Devland had improved to the point that Renar trusted him, but considering that a year has practically passed, he knew how Devland decides to act out of rage, annoyment, boredom...and now he seemed calm, so Renar didn't want to worry too much. "I understand, Your Grace."
Renar looks around him, and after spotting a servant, he walked towards him.
“Excuse me Lord, could you please inform His Excellency and Her Excellency's aides that His Grace has decided to withdraw?”
The servant nodded, not moving a facial muscle. "As you wish, Lord Renar."
The servants belonging to the Imperial palace were the most disciplined. No reaction. No questions. No thoughts.
Everything in this world that Renar must have already been familiar with is still weird.
'Well, not that it concerns me, I can't even understand them, I had to put on a business smile, not seem like I had no soul.'
The only ones he could understand in these terms are the workers in the Mors residence, they were somehow more like him.
Furthermore, Devland was also different as a superior. Renar has already accepted that this is not just a world inside a novel, but having this truth in front of him so different from the book, he didn't really know how to feel.
