'This Is too obvious!'

Renar leafed and leafed very carefully, and almost laughed at every image, too.

'It's very common that the Verus invested in similar projects is not much, because the competition in maritime trade is fierce, everything changes constantly within days, just thinking that near the city of Peron there are dozens of other ports is enough. But obviously, the richest aristocrat of the Empire had no problem investing a large sum, how admirable.'

But that wasn't the problem, obviously, what didn't add up was that only a few months after the Grand Duchy invested seven hundred million Verus on the project, it had already inexplicably decreased without making sense at all.

'For a project like this, you definitely need at least three hundred million Verus, which is honestly enough if you want a good result. But the Grand Duchy invested four hundred million Verus more, which would make it even more perfect in terms of materials and quality.'

But the money used for the materials didn't even correspond to their actual value, so it made no sense that such a big amount disappeared that fast, while spending it so little.

'So where did all this money go? Mh...'

Renar sighs, "Adam, there's a big problem here."

Adam expression hardens, head snapping towards Renar, "What do you mean?"

"Most of the money invested was not used for the purpose of the project, or at least, that's what I suspect."

"Let's see." Adam picked up the documents, and the more he read, the more confused he became, in fact, the invoices were all ridiculous, but only after a few months from the start of the project.

"What do you think? Something is clearly not right." Renar states.

Adam sighs annoyed, "Yeah, you're right. Tsk, who would have thought such crazy bastards exist."

Renar nodded. 'Well, to do something like that with the money that belongs to someone like Devland, you have to be stupid enough to go crazy.'

But still, Renar was happy, because this is clearly a big point in his favor.

"We need to check where he decided to spend his money!" Adam exclaimed. "I will ask for a general inspection of all the shops in the—"

"No." Renar shook his head, interrupting him. “In such a situation, the money was probably transferred to another person.”

Adam raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

'Adam is probably a novice at figuring things like this out.'

"In any case, before any theory it would be better to inform His Grace about it, this is already defined as a crime. The invoices are clearly falsified, because the Verus used for the goods do not correspond to their value."

Adam nodded immediately. "You're right, let's go."

Renar nodded and didn't wait a second to jump off his seat and walking towards Devland, instantly bowing. "I'm sorry to bother you, Your Grace."

Devland looked up, his eyes contrasting with the starry sky behind him. "What is it?"

"There is some legal problem with the project in the city of Peron, territory under the control of Count Cortez, Your Grace." Renar states.

"Pass the documents here, Adam, and you explain." Devland ordered, raising an eyebrow.

Adam took the documents in his hand and handed them to Devland.

"As you can see, in those invoices it says that the money invested was used for the materials needed to build the port, but the math doesn't add up, Your Grace." Renar explains.

Devland starts reading them one by one, then puts everything down on his desk, sighing bored. "Tsk, that bastard went to great lengths to hide the information like the rat he is."

"Your Grace, I am sure that the money you invested has probably been transferred to another person." Renar declares.

Devland stares at him for a few seconds, "What makes you say that, hm?"

"Allow me to explain, Your Grace. The southern territory is very convenient for the export of goods to the other Empires, as the climate is favorable and already directly overlooks one of the three empires." Blake starts. "So His Grace decided to invest exactly seven hundred million Verus, but probably, there was someone else who offered more."

"Offered more? I don't think such a thing is possible, unless...!" That's when it hit him.

"Basically my theory is that the money was transferred to another aristocrat, to start a new project, probably the same as yours, judging how the phots clearly show how it looks, Your Grace." Renar explains, sighing. "But considering the economic risk that Count Cortez and this alleged other person face, they cannot have used their own money."

Obviously this person cannot be richer than Devland, just thinking that two hundred million Verus corresponds to 0.0004% of his monetary assets.

But this is exactly why there are many other ways to offer an amount greater than two hundred million euros to have a better profit, and obviously they are all shady, because generally two hundred million euros, for a nobleman not too far below the Grand Duchy, banally a Marquis, could lose more than 3% of his monetary assets, an abysmal difference.

'But there Is no way that a figure of such importance willingly offered more money than the Grand Duke, it must necessarily be someone else. And this someone else must've got the money from an organisation. Even if my shady theory is wrong, there is no doubt that a crime has been committed.'

Devland frowned. "Count Cortez huh? Claude, throughout the week do some research regarding all his movements and if you don't find anything suspicious, then I give you permission to search inside his properties together with the soldiers." He instructed.

Claude simply nodded, looking pissed off well, probably because he didn't get to see a bed without being stressed about the day after.

"I swear on my name that I'll find all the proof you need, Your Grace."

Renar nodded and looked really satisfied about the whole ordeal.

'Well, the Count really dug his own grave, so lucky that I got be the one noting!'

Devland stares at him, "You are all dismissed." He says, walking towards Renar. "But not you, Ren."
