Delphine looks around at her family as they all wait for Bella. Each family member was dressed elegantly for Bella's birthday party, being celebrated that night
Hundreds of pink candles and rose-filled crystal bowls littered the house, as well as a large birthday cake.
The young Cullen brushed back her black curls and took a final look over her dress. Rosalie scoffed at her with a smile and told her,
"You look fine, stop worrying"
Delphine rolled her eyes playfully in response "I don't look fine, I look stunning"

She was dressed in a black halter top dress, rhinestones littering the waist and under bust, as well as short black heels adorning her feet
They all looked up as Alice led Bella and Edward downstairs. Everyone smiled, though some were slightly forced
Esme and Carlisle approach the birthday girl first, hugging her warmly, despite their cold skin.
"Sorry about all this" Carlisle told Bella in an apologetic tone "We tried to rein Alice in."
Esme laughed and added "Like that's even possible. Happy birthday, Bella."
A flash went off as Alice snapped a picture of Bella with them.
Alice held up a small camera with a smile "Found it in your bag. Mind?"
Emmett moves to Edward's side and nudges his side. Delphine stood beside him with a smirk.
"Dating an older woman" Delphine observed as she looked at Bella.
"Hot" Emmett added with a grin
Bella caught that and looked up at the three. Edward elbows him sharply to shut up and gives Delphine a warning look
"What?" The two asked simultaneously with feigned innocence
Rosalie steps up to Bella next. She quickly shoves a silver package at Bella and began to walk away
"It's a necklace" she tells her in a bored tone "Alice picked it out."
Alice tried to break the sudden tension by aiming the camera at Edward and Bella, telling them "Show me the love!"
Edward pulls Bella into an embrace, they look deeply into one another's eyes as the camera goes off once again
"For your scrapbook" Alice tells her with a giddy expression "Now open your presents!
Alice quickly began to drag Bella over to a table piled with elaborately wrapped gifts, a huge cake and a tall stack of china plates.
Bella looked in amazement at the large cake "Alice, I'm the only one who even eats cake. That thing could feed fifty."
Alice only shrugged and joked "Hope you're hungry. Here, this one's from Emmett."
The rest of the Cullen family crowds around... Except for Jasper and Delphine. Bella quickly opens the gift to find an empty car-radio box.
Bella stared at the empty box before looking up at Emmett "Um... thanks?"
Emmett laughed "New stereo. Already installed it in your truck"
Edward sighed "Finally, a decent sound system in that piece of-"
"Hey, no hating on the truck" Bella told him teasingly "Thank you, Emmett"
Alice hands Bella another box happily "Open mine!"
Bella began to open it, but sliced her finger on the wrapping paper
"Ouch - paper cut." She hissed as a single drop of deep red blood appears.
Everyone turns as they hear a grisly snarl, watching as Jasper lunges towards Bella
Delphine was the closest, and quickly barreled into Jasper, trying to stop him. They grappled for a second until Jasper flailed his arm and punched Delphine in the face, pushing her away
In the midst of the struggle Edward flung Bella behind his own body, causing her to crash into the table, plates shattering as she crashes onto the ground.
Jasper slammed into Edward, which sounded like boulders colliding as they struggled.
Edward managed to push him, hard. Jasper sailed backward, hitting the wall. But he quickly moved from it and off comes back at Bella. This time Emmett and Carlisle are able to tackle Jasper from the side, dragging him to the ground. Alice helps hold him down as she tries to calm him.
"Jaz... shhh-" she whispered to him soothingly
Delphine was now up and assessing the damage Jasper had done to her. The punch left small fractures along her skin, though they would heal like a bruise would. Her dress was ripped in the struggle, leaving the back torn.
Alice abruptly stops her calm mumbling to Jasper, her head suddenly jerking toward Bella- lying amid the shards of broken china. Everyone looks at her arm, seeing now - it's been slashed by plate shards, and it left bright red blood pulsing out of her, pooling on the hardwood floor.
Carlisle jumps to Bella's side. Edward, though white as a ghost, snaps out of it and stands between her and the others as well.
Delphine stood in front of jasper immediately, using her gift to command him "Jasper, outside. Now" though it still takes Emmett's and Rosalie's help, they take Jasper outside. Esme and Alice soon join them as well
Jasper walks a distance from the house and sits, his head in his hands shamefully. Delphine sits beside him.
"I'm sorry" Jasper muttered to her
"You have nothing to apologize for. We all gave our moments of weakness" she told him as they sat together in the dark night, reeling from the events.
Though no one would admit it, a sense of foreboding dread filled then all, of what would happen next.
