Theo and Reed went inside the nicely decorated office , holding hands proudly in spite of the open sneers from the Brown family.

The middle aged light skinned Black secretary looked up from her desk where she had been typing with badly shaking hands. There was a lot of stress in her finely chiseled handsome face. " You need to do something about those awful people , Vanessa ! "

A cold voiced Vanessa silenced her with a sternly worded , " And you need to return to doing your job , Joan. "

Joan flushed and timidly whispered , " Sam called again. She says it is urgent. Very very urgent. "

Vanessa rolled her eyes heavenward. " It always is with her. She can wait. "

Reed looked at her. A strange feeling of dread crawled up his spine. He never had a feeling like this about anyone in his life. Even Todd Deets. Well except for when he had seen Todd standing in the church pointing a gun at them. He squeezed Theo's hand. He wanted to snatch his husband up and run out of this place. Maybe this was a mistake. There were other adoption agencies. But not ones designed like this one though. The reviews were highly rated on Google. He opened his mouth to speak just as a tall model thin White woman in faded jeans and a paint splattered button down plaid shirt rushed into the office. She had pure passion shooting from her slanted black eyes. And much anger. Thank God the look was directed towards Vanessa Clyde who merely smiled at her condescendingly.

" Vanessa , " the woman screeched. " Stop ignoring my texts and calls ! Stop hiding behind your mousy gatekeeper Joan ! Our son needs braces ! I need money to pay for them ! "

Vanessa sighed. " You always need money , Samantha. Maybe if you had went to business school like your parents wanted instead of art school you could be remotely self supporting. Instead of a struggling artist who chooses to leech off me while using our son as a reason. "

" Leech !?! Vanessa , I am your wife ! "

" For now. That train has left the station though. If you don't mind exiting the office. As even someone with your limited intelligence can see I have clients. Mr. Fisher , Mr. Walton- Fisher , please come into my office and have a seat. We will discuss all your options. Joan , make yourself useful and brew up some tea. Earl Grey of course. And the chocolate biscuits. " She snapped her fingers at the secretary like she was a lapdog and the woman immediately jumped up and went off to do her bidding.

They looked at each other for a long moment. Then with a slight hesitation they entered the inner office and had a seat.

If Theo and Reed only knew that was their first mistake.
