Chapter Twenty Seven

Robbie Brown had forced Theo into his beat up old truck and made Theo drive to Vanessa Clyde's office. Then Robbie broke in and forced Theo inside. Once inside he made Theo sit behind Vanessa's desk and text Reed a message that he dictated.

Now Theo sat and watched Robbie as he wondered when he would die and how it felt to be shot.

He was going to die.

He was never going to see Reed again.

He was never going to see anyone he loved again.

He cursed his own stupidity.

I'm sorry, Reed.

" You killed them ," Theo said. He was surprised that he sounded so calm right now. Shouldn't he be panicking right now? Would it hurt to die?

" Yeah. It wwwas a accident ttthough. "

" A accident?"

Robbie swallowed. For a gun toting maniac he looked like a scared little boy. " Yes. I didn't mean ttto. Enough tttalking. You going to kill yourself. Because you killed two wwwomen. "

Theo shook his head. The hell he was going to die today. He hadn't survived Todd Deets and cancer to go out like this.

" No."

Robbie cussed.

" At least tell me how you killed them before I die. I deserve to know why I'm dying. " Yes. Give him time to figure out how to escape.

" Yeah. Mmmaybe. It really wwwas a accident. That wwwoman Vanessa had mmme come here. I sneaked out so Gran don't know. That wwwoman said she wwwas going to tell Gran the truth about mmme. I made one mistake. One mistake! I slept with her wife ! I wasn't even trying to. I didn't even want to! I was trying to prove I could. I didn't even like it ! She said she would destroy me. She was going to get me killed. My family will kill me if they find out. I couldn't let that happen. I threatened her with the letter opener. I tried to scare her. She tried to attack me. That's how she got stabbed!It was her fault! "

Theo felt sick. But he had to keep him talking. He needed to work on an escape plan.

" You killed Samantha too. "

" I prayed for forgiveness. Just like Gran taught me. Samantha thought I killed her damn wife that hated her. She said she was going to the idiot cops. I couldn't let that happen. I stopped her. I pushed her. She just fell. "

" Her son was there. He saw his mother die. "

" I didn't know the kid was there! I didn't know! I had no choice. She had to die ! Just like Vanessa!"

He pointed the gun at Theo.

" Just like you. I tried to warn you. You didn't listen. It's not my fault. I prayed. God forgave me. "

Theo stood up from the chair.

" Sit down. Time to commit suicide. Say good bye. "

Theo didn't sit down. He wrapped his hand around a large marble paperweight on the desk and threw it at the young man.

It hit him in the head just as the door to the office opened and in rushed Detective Meg Rhodes who was pointing her own gun.

Robbie fell onto the carpeted floor, his head bleeding heavily.

Rhodes shook her head as she looked at Theo. " Told you to leave the police work to the police. "

Theo felt weak. " How did you find me? "

" I didn't know you were missing. I was here to look through her files. I heard everything he said though. "

Theo sank back down to the chair and with unsteady hands called Reed.
