Infernape's Thunder Punch destroyed the Hydro Pump, then advanced to Blastoise and punched the turtle-like Pokémon in the stomach. Blastoise yelped as the electricity paralyzed his body.
"Alright!" the raven-haired teen cheered.
Infernape smiled arrogantly, but Gary was quick to counter. "Blastoise, use Earthquake!"
Blastoise ignored the static running through him and began to shake the ground. Infernape winced in pain as the ground shook violently. "Finish it with Water Pulse," the brunette wanted to end the battle.
Blastoise aimed at Infernape. If Water Pulse hit, Infernape would not last. The fiery monkey looked at Ash after Blastoise fired the incoming water attack. "Try to stop it by using Thunder Punch again!" Ash cried out.
Infernape used Thunder Punch to punch through the Water Pulse. Then it charged at Blastoise like a ballistic monkey. Gary and Blastoise prepared to fire their most powerful Water-type attack at the incoming fire Pokémon. Ash foolishly believed they could deflect any water attack by now with Thunder Punch.
"Hydro Cannon!" Gary Oak shouted out.
Everyone gasped, including Ash and Infernape. Not even Thunder Punch had enough power to counter Hydro Cannon. Blastoise prepared to charge the deadly blue attack at the tip of its cannons. Luckily for Ash, there was a way out of this situation. Just before Blastoise could release Hydro Cannon, its paralyzed status left it unable to use the attack, and Infernape saw an opening. At full speed, Infernape crashed down on Blastoise and sent it back with the mighty Thunder Punch.
"I forgot about the paralysis," the brunette muttered.
"Better luck next time," Ash grinned confidently.
Gary began chuckling, "Look again, Ash."
Ash and Infernape turned to see Blastoise getting up with a blue aura surrounding it. Its eyes were dead serious, and it shouted out, "Blastoise!"
"This is Torrent, the ability that increases a Water Pokémon's power to higher levels. This time, Thunder Punch won't be able to stop any of Blastoise's attacks," the young Oak declared.
"Infernape, use Mach Punch!" Ash called out quickly.
"Blastoise, use Rapid Spin with Water Gun!" Gary exclaimed.
Infernape went full speed, but Blastoise hid in its shell and began spinning. At the same time, Blastoise also unleashed a rotating Water Gun that aimed for Infernape.
"Infernape, use Flamethrower on the Water Gun," Ash ordered. He had another strategy up his sleeve.
Flamethrower and Water Gun clashed, with neither resulting in any damage, but instead created a heavy steam that prevented anyone watching from getting a visible view. "Infernape hide."
"Hiding won't help even with this steam. Blastoise, use Earthquake. Let's go!" Gary demanded.
"Infernape, use Underground Flare Blitz," the raven-haired teen commanded.
The same technique Ash used on Paul was now playing into effect on Gary, and the entire field started to heat up. Even the mighty Blastoise was unable to endure the intense heat. Infernape's strategy prevented Blastoise from using Earthquake since the ground became unbearably hot.
"Blastoise!" Gary expressed concern for his starter. Fire burst underneath Blastoise and sent him flying, wailing in pain.
Infernape sprang out triumphantly. Blastoise flew in the air with no chance of recovery, but then Gary told it to use Rapid Spin. Somehow, Blastoise regained its composure midair and went to Infernape like a boomerang.
