"Look at all that," Drew pointed at the horizon when they reached the top of the hill.
May's eyes glowed with admiration over the panoramic view of Pallet Town. "It's beautiful," was the only thing she could say after the sight nearly took her breath away.
They could see all the houses in Pallet, and even Professor Oak's Laboratory. The grasslands were like a sea of green, but Pallet's shores were also visible. A flock of Pidgey were flying in the sky with a Pidgeot guiding them. Alongside the side flock, a group of Butterfree accompanied them. Among the party, there was a pink Butterfree and a Butterfree with what appeared to be a scarf or ribbon around it.
"If you look closely, you'll see a herd of Lapras swimming near the shore," Drew focused his eyes on the ocean beyond the small town.
She didn't know how Drew spotted them, but she squinted and saw the herd of Lapras peacefully navigating the Kanto waters. The sight delighted her as she saw the group of Pidgey and Butterfree fly toward the ocean, nearly hovering over the Lapras.
For Drew, nothing could ruin this moment. "There's only one thing more beautiful than this view," the coordinator got her attention.
"What's that?" the Petalburg coordinator turned to face him with a smirk. She had a feeling she knew where he was going.
"You," Drew stared into her sapphire eyes while they sat side by side.
Smooth, May giggled sheepishly with a blush as red as a ruby. She could feel her heart pound at an abnormal pace. "Thank you, Drew. That's very sweet."
"You're welcome," the coordinator smiled as he continued to look at her. She noticed Drew neared his face to hers. The brunette didn't near her face, but she wasn't moving away. Once again, she became charmed by Drew's seduction. The male coordinator closed his eyes as he inched closer. May could practically feel his breathing on her lips.
Damn it, May dug her grip into the grass. She wasn't sure what to do. She wanted to kiss him, but she didn't believe it was the right place or the right time. If she denied him a kiss, she wondered if he'd be upset or get his feelings hurt. She cursed Drew for putting her in this position. She had less than 2 seconds to decide what to do. The tip of her gloves dug into the dirt beneath the grass. Then she thought about the dispute between Ash and Drew. The brunette knew Ash was counting on her to pacify Drew. May nodded sideways. She placed her hand on Drew's chest to push him away a few inches.
Drew opened his eyes with surprise and asked, "What's wrong, May?"
"I'm sorry, Drew. I don't think I am ready for that. There's something I want to talk to you about," the brunette looked at him apologetically as she hoped he didn't feel hurt over what she did. She had no reason to apologize, but she didn't know that. All she knew was that she needed to confront him.
Drew's face became worried. He wondered if he was too late and if May had already chosen Ash over him. The coordinator nodded sternly to indicate that he would listen to her. The coordinator hoped she wouldn't tell him she preferred Ash. He feared losing her.
May could sense his worries. She was sure this was the last thing he expected, but it was now or never. "Drew, do you remember what you told me on the ship before we arrived?" the sapphire-eyed girl reminded him.
Her rival lowered his head; Drew knew what she was referring to and where she was going. "I guess I haven't been doing a good job of getting along with Ash, have I?" the emerald-eyed boy admitted with guilt. He cursed himself for pushing it with Ash. I should've been more careful. Why did I let my ego get to me? He damned his biggest flaw. He wondered if she'd tell him to leave Pallet Town or cut him off for failing her.
