The sun gleamed over Pallet Town the day after Drew and Misty left. Ash, May, and Pikachu sat on

a hill in the quiet town to admire the view. May leaned on Ash while Pikachu rested on her shoulder. They stared at all the Pokémon taking advantage of the bright day, from Rattata to Fearow.

"Everyone seemed really happy that we're going to Unova," May thought about the news they delivered to their families.

"Yeah, I'm sure they're excited to have us start a new journey," Ash acknowledged.

May sighed, "Yeah, which means we don't have much time left to enjoy here. We should do something, Ash. Since Misty and Drew aren't here anymore, we can do more couple stuff."

Ash happily agreed, "You're right!"

May became ecstatic, "Yay!"

"What do couples do?" Ash asked embarrassingly. May dropped to the ground over his statement. The brunette stood up and sighed. She had forgotten who she was dealing with. "Why don't we go eat somewhere?"

"I could sure use a bite to eat," Ash admitted with his stomach grumbling right on cue. The boy sheepishly grinned as he held his stomach, "How do burgers sound?"

"We just had lunch, Ash," May became the voice of reason for once over their appetites. She didn't expect him to be hungry for a meal again.

Ash lowered his head in disappointment. Then his face brightened again, "I know! How about ice cream?"

May snapped her fingers, "Now you're talking!" His girlfriend winked at him.

"Pi pi pika Pikachu," Pikachu leaped off May's shoulder and approached Ash.

Ash raised his eyebrow, "You don't want to come, buddy?"

Pikachu nodded, "Pikapi pi pikachu," the mouse explained.

"I gotcha, pal," Ash understood what Pikachu was trying to convey. He would've felt the same way if he were Pikachu.

"Why doesn't Pikachu want to come?" May looked surprised. The coordinator kneeled to pet him.

Ash chuckled. "Pikachu doesn't want to third wheel, so he'll head home instead."

May giggled, "I see." The coordinator picked Pikachu up, "Don't worry, Pikachu. I won't take Ash away for too long." May knew Ash had to split his affection between May and Pikachu now, so she was considerate of the mouse's feelings.

"Pi pika," Pikachu told the girl not to fret. He wasn't jealous and was glad they'd spend some time alone. The Electric-type nuzzled his cheek against hers.

"Then let's get going," Ash stood up as he adjusted his hat by the brim. The day continued to look bright.

Ash and May happily slurped on their milkshakes as they relaxed outside the ice cream parlor. "Y'know, I had no idea they served other desserts besides ice cream. This stuff is great!" Ash enjoyed his sweet treat.

"Good thing I caught that on the menu!" May winked at him with the straw in her mouth as she slurped on her strawberry milkshake. "It's a little thick, but it's still delicious!" the coordinator cheered after another slurp.

Ash enthusiastically agreed as he slurped on his chocolate milkshake. Then, he stopped, "Want to race to see who finishes their milkshake first?"

"Sure, I bet I'll win," May delightfully agreed as she put her hands together.

Ash nodded confidently. He positioned his elbows on the table and neared his mouth to the straw. As did May, "Right then. On your mark, get set. Go!" Ash announced.
