Packing took less than 20 minutes, probably because Nico didn't have a lot of stuff. A few Polaroid pictures were placed carefully in a zip lock bag, along with the things that were most important to him (If only he could put Will in the bag).
His jackets were stuffed in a different bag to carry, as from the very short 5 hour history lesson Nico had received from Annabeth, Gotham was colder during wintertime than the surrounding cities. Something about a villain obsessed with freezing the city?
In Nico's defense, he'd had a harder time than usual focusing with the looming deadline of his depart to Gotham, how was he supposed to remember the different warning sirens in the city, they had one for just about every situation! Knowing Gotham had a protocol for the revolutionary uprising of sewer crocodiles didn't exactly make Nico feel safe, nor anymore excited having to live there for an unspecified amount of time.Another dilemma of Nico being, the probably very rich, furry, man running around beating up people with fancy gadgets, along with his literal army of animal themed vigilantes.
The times before had been so much simpler, which was probably just because he was a kid, but back then Nico only really recalled Wonder Woman doing the hero gig. Not to say that there hadn't been others of course, but compared to nowadays, it was mild. Now there were whole teams with several aliens on them.And fish people.
Percy hated them, the dislike had developed after an incident he'd yet to elaborate on.Though Nico didn't care much about fish Jesus having beef with fish people. It was after all a pretty common occurrence. He had more important matters to oversee, like how he'd go about completing his quest, and what to eat for his farewell dinner at camp.
Will had voted on ordering Pizza but that idea had sadly been shut down, so they'd compromised with Chiron on having the dryad's serve some sort of sorbet as a dessert (one time thing only).
Nico had secretly rooted for McDonalds, which wasn't allowed either sadly. Not that McDonald's was Nico's favorite food in actuality, but it was the only food he really ate while traversing through the labyrinth, so it held a special place in his heart.
Also the cheap and greasy food was near perfect for performing necromancy.
Nico cut off his own stream of thoughts by replaying the album on his Walkman. Ever since a younger Hephaestus camper had gotten their hands on a bunch of cassettes, it had been an instant hit. Nico preferred Techno Pop, and had nagged some of them.
Letting the music in his ears distract him, he spent the remaining hours until dinner walking around camp, occasionally joining in on some activities. Albeit having a rocky start here, he had grown to call camp his home.
Nico was going to miss it, but he was used to not staying in the same place for long, and at least this time Nico knew he would be returning home. Unless he was killed or something, but considering the amount of schist thrown in his direction over the years, a quest wouldn't be enough to send him down to his dad.
The sun was hanging low by now as he walked around camp taking in the good atmosphere, the late summer weather still warm. Even if Nico didn't wanna admit it, summer was one of his favorite seasons. If only because Will seemed to glow just a little bit brighter.
He continued trudging along the edge of the forest until dinner was announced.
* * *
Dinner was over far too quickly for Nico's taste, the sorbet was good though. The time after dinner was spent with tearful goodbyes to his Coco Puffs.
The sun was nearly set as he walked up camp half-blood hill towards the barrier, together with will."You promise you'll call at least once a week, ok Neeks?" Will fretted, he was understandably distraught.
"Oh gods, I thought we both agreed that nickname is horrible"
