School.
The less humane version of the fields of punishment. And apparently something Nico had to attend, which was absolutely stupid but alright.
After settling in to 'his' apartment, a letter and a school uniform was sent to the door. He was set to attend Gotham prep, something about mandatory education. Apparently a teenager wandering around Gotham during school hours wouldn't go unnoticed, well if he was homeless it probably would, but Nico was pretty clearly not-homeless, he wore alot of jewelry. (Most of it was gifted by Will, so he couldn't just not wear it-)
The letter contained a map of Gotham as well, with a few dozen locations marked, most of the locations just held information traces of the Lazarus Pit. Folders and papers that needed to be destroyed, but the thing he really needed to prioritize was the vials.
Apparently someone had leaked glass vials, about the size of chapstick, with Lazarus water into Gotham.
So technically, Nico would be regarded as a bad guy, considering he would most definitely be breaking into several places, and trespassing on private property to retrieve all of them. At nighttime. Like some sort of Walmart boy version of Catwoman.
The letter had stated that he would be getting some proper clothing for traversing Gotham after dark, whatever that meant, though the child in Nico silently hoped it was a 'hero' like suit. That had always been a dumb idea in the back of his mind, to use his Demigod powers for good, like Wonder Woman.
It would be funny to make a dumb schtick for himself like the other Gotham 'Rogues', but Nico didn't have that much effort to give for a quest.
And he preferred not to think about the other part of his assignment, so to speak.
He'd procrastinate as long as he dam well pleased!Well that was a lie, if he took too long Hades would just send someone else.
And he was already supposed to start at school on Monday.
It was Monday.
Nico groaned into his, surprisingly comfortable, pillow.
His alarm clock was set to go off at six am, but Nico had immediately smashed it into his wall when he awoke, whilst still being half asleep. Great start to Nico's morning.
He then lay there for at least 20 minutes. The school didn't start until 8 anyways. He wanted to be early just in case.
Technically he was supposed to take an entrance exam, but that just risked Nico not being accepted at all, so Hades might've pulled some strings. It wasn't that Nico was stupid, he just hadn't gotten a lot of academic education. The last time he was in school was at the Military Academy, with Bianca. Nico preferred not to think about that place.
The only subject Nico really understood was math, for whatever reason. There were rules for calculating stuff, Guidelines to follow, unlike the worse than any Greek monster called English.
He apparently jumped up a grade in math. Not that he wasn't good at it, but Nico didn't really understand why. It wasn't like he'd be finishing his education in Gotham anyways.
His stomach growled.
Right. Breakfast. Nico forgot about that, he'd gotten so used to not having to worry about that at camp. Luckily he'd gone out grocery shopping the evening before with the debit card Hades gave him. (And nearly got mugged twice). He didn't have a phone so he couldn't really monitor how much money was on it, but Hades (or Pluto if you prefer) was the god of wealth so that probably wouldn't be an issue.
Hm. Nico was technically the son of the richest person on earth. Ha, take that snobby kids Nico would probably meet at Gotham Prep. It was a private school for elites especially, after all.
Nico had gone off track again. Food. He needed something to eat.
Heaving himself out of bed and getting dressed took several minutes, but finally he stood at the kitchen entrance, wearing the scratchy school uniform (seriously, you'd think they could afford more comfortable uniforms being a prestigious private school, but alas).
Nico didn't know how to cook a lot of things, he had some recipes memorized but he probably should buy a recipe book soon.
Well he had eggs in the fridge and a frying pan, so omelette it is.
Nico finished making and eating breakfast in less time than it took him to get out of bed.
The time was 6:50 then. Still over an hour to go. He regretted waking up early.
Might as well arrive early Nico thought, shrugging.
He could probably think of something to pass the time. Whether that be arson or getting coffee, Nico didn't care.
After quickly brushing his slightly shaggy hair, readying his bag and grabbing his overcoat, he was out the door and headed to the nearest bus stop. Luckily his apartment wasn't located in one of the worse districts of Gotham, so they still had functioning bus stops.
Nico still couldn't help but cringe at the air quality. If this was a nicer part of Gotham, he wasn't too excited about the lesser parts. The people of Gotham had a similar vibe to New Yorkers, like Nico could start raising the dead and they wouldn't even be surprised. Actually, with the amount of Rogues Gotham had, that had probably happened at least once.
The bus took too long to arrive for Nico's taste, and he'd nearly gotten up to walk there instead five times. But he was finally headed towards the school.
* * *
Gotham Preparatory highschool was quite frankly, boring.
The tall building held the same style of architecture as the other buildings around, if not a bit older. Archways and an over-dramatic amount of detailing that Nico did not have time to inspect.
And the building was also, expectedly, empty, completely devoid of any students.
Well, that was a lie.
There was a blonde haired girl sitting on the far right of the steps texting on her phone, and a group of freshmen were talking loudly near the parking lot.But it made sense that there were barely any students, Nico was early after all.
Nico continued forward, praying that the door wasn't locked. He might as well explore a bit.
The girl briefly glanced up at him as he entered.
Walking down the empty school halls gave Nico a nostalgic feeling, they reminded him an odd amount of the military academy. Same harsh decor and dingy colors, except this place had a way of making you feel like you didn't have enough money, even if your dad was the god of wealth.
Time passed quickly as he explored, and soon other students arrived, making the halls way more crowded.
He didn't like many people at once, not that he was that bad at social interactions, just that Nico preferred being with a select few instead.
Soon enough, he was headed to his first class. English. He was listed as a transfer student, but surprisingly no one asked too many questions when he entered.
Still, Nico couldn't help but notice how several of the students shot him dirty looks, as if he was less than them for whatever reason. Maybe it was his lack of care for his appearance. Nico sighed as he sat down at an empty desk, this was gonna be a long day.
End note: This chapter certainly took a while for me to get through;-; Probably cause I have so many good ideas for future chapters, but I can't just skip till everything else. Anyways! Hope you enjoyed this chapter (even if it's a little boring).
As always, do feel free to comment on any spelling/grammar mistakes!
