A House Like Hers

"'Why do you cry?' they ask me
When they see me fall apart.
They think I weep for a man
Who could never break this heart

These tears are saved for true love
Love like this does not exist
In romance, fairytales, or
In any man you've kissed

Love like this lives in a house
Lonely ladies build on hills
Nests decorate the rooftops
And the gardens growing daffodils

And a wall that can't be climbed
Snakes around her hidden home
'Till she's crafted a whole world
Where she can live in all alone

But you'll find she's much less lonely
Than she was when she knew you
For away from all the world
Is where her little family grew

A hundred cats she shares a bed with
And the birds play in her tub
And you'll find inside her wardrobe
Sleeps a fearsome grizzly cub

And I envy her so strongly,
That is why you see me cry,
Had I'd built a house like hers
Perhaps my cats won't always die."
