Alhaitham's eyebrows shot up in disbelief as he looked at Kaveh standing by the door with his luggage. "You've got to be kidding me," he muttered, staring. But Kaveh just grinned wider, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Surprise!" he announced, his voice filled with excitement.
A few days prior, Kaveh had made up a clever plan to change dorm rooms. He made a fake complaint about his current roommate's incessant snoring and submitted it to the dormitory office
Initially met with resistance, Kaveh's persuasive skills came into play when he invoked the influence of his parents in this school. Their reputation and connections worked in his favour, ultimately securing his request for a room change
With the paperwork sorted and approval granted, Kaveh had successfully become Alhaitham's new roommate, all without anyone, not even his closest friends, suspecting a thing. His parents' legacy at the Academia had opened doors for him once again, proving that sometimes, it's not just what you know, but who you know.
Today was the day of Kaveh's big move. With all his belongings neatly packed and his nerves on edge, he took a deep breath before turning the key in the lock of his new dorm room. Despite his confident exterior, deep down, Kaveh was feeling the butterflies fluttering in his stomach. He couldn't shake off how Alhaitham would react to the surprise.
As the door swung open, Kaveh was met with Alhaitham's puzzled gaze. Alhaitham's expression twisted into a mixture of confusion and disbelief as he took in the sight before him.
"You've got to be kidding me," Alhaitham muttered under his breath, disbelief evident in his voice.
But Kaveh couldn't contain his excitement. With a wide grin plastered on his face, he waved his hand in a playful greeting. "Surprise!" he exclaimed, trying to lighten the mood.
Alhaitham's disbelief only seemed to deepen. "You're the new roommate?" he asked, his voice tinged with incredulity as he rubbed his forehead in exasperation. "How did they even let you do that?"
Kaveh shrugged nonchalantly, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I've got connections," he replied, dragging his belongings into the room with a sense of triumph.
"So, roomie, which one is my room?" Kaveh asked eagerly
Alhaitham sighed, resigned to the unexpected turn of events. "The one to the left," he replied wearily.
"Great! I'll start unpacking then," Kaveh declared, depositing his phone, keys, and a haphazardly packed backpack on the kitchen counter before making his way to his new room, excitement bubbling within him
Alhaitham shook his head in disapproval as he stood up, feeling the need for a caffeine boost to help his brain make sense of the situation unfolding before him. He made his way to the kitchen, the weight of confusion heavy on his shoulders.
He filled the electric kettle and set it on the counter, the sound of bubbling water filling the silence of the room. As he waited for the water to boil, a sudden vibration caught his attention. He glanced to his right, expecting to see his own phone lighting up with a message, only to see a message from Cyno: "I posted the love letter in his locker."
It was not Alhaitham's phone which vibrated, it was Kaveh's
Alhaitham's stomach churned with realization. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place
As Kaveh returned to the kitchen, humming to himself, he felt a wave of unease wash over him. Just as he was about to enter, a hand stopped him, pressing him against the wall. His eyes widened in confusion as he looked up at the taller figure before him.
"What's up?" Kaveh asked, his voice betraying his nerves.
Alhaitham stared into his eyes, his gaze piercing. "Do you admire my intelligence, my toned body, my pretty face? Is that what you like?"
Kaveh's throat went dry as he struggled to find the right words. "What are you talking about?"
"Don't act stupid," Alhaitham replied, his voice laced with frustration. "I suspected you from the start. I recognized your handwriting. I just didn't want to confront you until I had solid evidence."
"How... How did you?" Kaveh stammered, his mind racing.
"Your friend Cyno messaged you at the wrong time," Alhaitham explained.
"You were going through my phone?" Kaveh's voice rose in disbelief.
"What? No!" Alhaitham stepped back, a defensive edge to his tone.
"Yes, you did!" Kaveh insisted. "You were looking through my phone!"
"I did not!" Alhaitham's voice matched Kaveh's. "I thought it was my phone and I saw the notification!"
"Excuses! That is violating student privacy!" Kaveh accused, his frustration mounting.
"Why are you changing the subject?" Alhaitham moved closer again, their bodies almost touching.
"What do you mean?" Kaveh's words came out in a nervous stutter.
"You violated a rule too, taking others' belongings," Alhaitham stated firmly. "I'll need my books back."
"I'll give them back! It was only a joke," Kaveh promised, as he placed both hands on Alhaitham's chest in an attempt to push him away, but he couldn't help but notice the muscular strength beneath the fabric of his shirt. A flush spread across Kaveh's face as he quickly retrieved his hands, feeling flustered.
"What's wrong? Did you not say you liked my muscles?" Alhaitham's face inched closer, his eyes gleaming with amusement.
"It was just a joke, a small harmless prank!" Kaveh panicked, his heart pounding in his chest.
"It wasn't harmless for me. I thought I had some sort of stalker. Well, I guess I do," Alhaitham remarked, his gaze sweeping over Kaveh's form.
"I'm not a stalker!" Kaveh protested, feeling defensive.
"A secret admirer?" Alhaitham's voice softened, their faces now only inches apart.
"No, I told you it was just a joke!" Kaveh insisted, his breaths coming quick and shallow.
"Are you sure?" Alhaitham's tone was teasing, his lips almost brushing against Kaveh's.
Before Kaveh could respond, a phone started ringing, breaking the charged atmosphere between them. Alhaitham glanced back to see his phone on the desk and quickly moved away to answer it, disappearing into his bedroom.
Left alone in the kitchen, Kaveh let out a shaky exhale, his face still flushed and his heart racing. What had just happened?
He pressed a hand to his chest, trying to calm the tumultuous emotions swirling within him. He hadn't expected such a thing, especially on the day he moved into Alhaitham's dorm
As he sank down against the wall, he couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get a lot more complicated.
