I hadn't blinked an ounce of sleep since last night and the side effects were immense.
Amy was dead and so was Ed.
Amy was bitten a second time during the attack and Ed was swarmed and became walker chow.
I didn't feel an ounce of remorse for Ed dying, but Amy was like a punch to the gut.
We weren't very close to begin with, but she was always friendly and closer to my age than the others aside from Glenn and Gage.
I was bleary-eyed and running on fumes, but fear kept me from closing my eyes, my subconscious mind anticipating more walkers to appear from the surrounding woods and come to kill the rest of us off.
My brother and sister had slept in my dads Tahoe, too scared after Ed's death to sleep in their tents which no one blamed them for, but at least someone got sleep.
Gage was back and forth, returning to my side periodically to check in with me, before wandering off again to do god knows what, Glenn had stuck by my side for a while, asking what had happened and then talking to me about anything and nothing to distract not only my mind but his.
I'd ask where Merle was, and he told me that all they'd found of him was his hand, sawwed off at the wrist joint and I nearly threw up the fish I'd had for dinner when he told me that.
Disappointment and frustration knawed at my bones at the simple fact that they'd risked their lives to go get Merle back, only to return with nothing and have Glenn kidnapped in the process, doing a hostage exchange for him with one of their own men Daryl had shot in the ass with an arrow.
That part was the only funny thing about our conversation, and I mentally noted to question Daryl about why he'd shot the young teenager in the ass cheek another time.
Glenn explained that the group who took him were held up in an old folks home, taking care of the elderly patience there that the staff had abandoned entirely when the world went to hell and he mentions that Rick had asked them to join us, but refused and I can't blame them.
Not after last night.
Andrea was stuck by Amy's side, not leaving her dead body for a single second, and everyone around us was crawling with nerves, waiting for the dead women to reanimate as eventually it happened to everyone sooner or later.
I felt for the older women, but the rational part of my mind, the part with military training and common sense was disappointed in her.
She wouldn't be her sister when she came back, a part of her had to know that.
She was only going to be a mindless bloodthirsty killer with the only instinct being to kill.
Multiple people try to approach her, begging to take Amy's body and when Rick walks over to her, Andrea pulls her gun, and I hear the all to familiar found of a guns safety turning off vibrate through camp in warning that she wants to be alone, resulting in Rick backing off.
I don't know how I'd gotten out of clean up duty, but I had as everyone else around me works to burn the corpses in a fire that reeked of death and decay, making my nose burn and stomach curdle.
I was on the furthest side of camp, resting against the front tire of my dads vehicle, lost in thought when a voice alters rings through the air and I snap my gaze to Jaqui.
"A walker got him. A walker got Jim." She says to everyone in camp.
Chaos erupts as everyone demands to see where he'd been bit and before long, he's pinning against Tdogs chest, his arms restrained as Daryl lifts his shirt into the air revealing the imprinted bite mark, red and irritated against the man's pale skin.
