Integrating back into the group was smooth, but I couldn't mistake any of the looks the others gave me, like I was going to break at any moment because I'd been shot only a few days ago.
The process was slow, I wasn't up to my normal pace and if I moved too much I'd get phantom pains all along my side, but the need for normalcy pushed me forward, as I couldn't stand lying in bed all day long, helpless and doing nothing while my sister and Sophia were still missing.
Everyone was abnormally quit, moving about business as usual while seeming to do things to benefit our small group.
I was wrapped in sharpening my knife, the blade having dulled since the last time I'd sharpened it and I refused to act helpless while the others moved around.
Seeing as everyone refused to let me do anything but the task at hand, I tried to keep my intrusive thoughts of being extremely unless at bay by takingthe growing frustration out on the blade, almost too aggressively dragging it over the groves of the sharpener to restore the precious weapon back to its previous glory.
It might've been the aggression in each swipe of the blade, or the look on my face that gave away my mood, but no one dared to disrupt my little activity, keeping their distance until Glenn spoke up, drawing everyone's attention away from their tasks and to him.
"Um guys." He spoke, which only severed to catch absolutely no ones attention at first, my own included. "So..." He added for a single moment, before the next words from his mouth drew out everyone's attention. "The barns full of walkers." He admitted and halfway through my swipe of the blade, I snap my attention to him.
It was like an ice cold bucket of water had just thrown over all of us, as we all look at him in disbelief.
In a moment, we were all up on our feet and making our way to the barn, my dad grabbing my brother from by Lori and hovering close to us as we made our way toward the barn, like all of us needed proof of the words that left Glenns mouth.
When we reach the large structure, Shane wanders to the doors of it, and I watch as he glances inside as if to see what is inside.
Without even looking, the low and muffled groans and shuffling from inside indicate exactly what Glenn had admitted, that there's walkers inside the building.
A jolt from Shane indicates exactly that, as a louder snarl rings through the air before he's spinning away from the building and walking over to Rick.
"You can't tell me you're alright with this." Shane barks out as he walks past Rick, confirming all of our worries.
"No, I'm not." Rick rebuttals. "We're guests here, this isn't our land." Rick argues.
"This is our lives man!" Shane fights back a moment later and I have to agree with him here.
"Lower your voice." Lori snaps at him.
"We can't just sweep this under the rug." Andrea argues with the women.
"It's not right, not remotely." Tdog argues as well.
"We either go in there and make things right, or we have to leave." My dad pipes in and I look at him, but he's dead set on his words by the look on his face.
"We've been talking about Fort Benning for a while now." Shane adds a moment after my dads words before Rick butts in.
"We can't leave." He demands.
