Those damned eyes. Green as the forest around him and ringed with steel.

They haunted his dreams at night. She always did. Sometimes it was her golden hair too, her sleek movements, the curve of her figure.

But always, always her eyes.

He would do anything to be rid of them. To stop hearing her laugh in every female laugh he heard. To stop his heart from jumping at every head of rippling golden hair that passed in the corner of his vision. To sleep through the night without seeing her in his dreams, to wake up in the morning without the image of those bright eyes emblazed in his mind.

It was driving him mad.

He would do anything to be rid of her. To be rid of those haunting eyes.

Just like he would do anything to gaze into them again.

His mind wandered.

For them to be the last sight he saw every night before sleep, and for them to be his first sight when he awoke each morning. To memorize their every detail, the way they crinkle in the corners with her smile, or spark with fire in her anger, the way they seemed to carry the whole forest within them, the color of them like home, calling to him.

He would do anything to go to her, he would–

Legolas blinked, his mind suddenly clear, and he was back in his father's council room, Tauriel still talking through her daily report. Every other guard in the room was at full attention, as well as his father.

He shook his head.

What had it been this time? There wasn't anything in this room even vaguely reminiscent of her. And yet, his mind had strayed.

To her. Always to her.

It was getting worse.

He was seeing her everywhere. Morning, noon, night, it was as if the memory of her had become a phantom, haunting his every move.

And it was driving him mad.

Legolas gripped the armrests of his chair, his jaw clenched.

She was nothing to him. Not anymore.

No matter how long it took him, he would drive the memory of her from his mind, until her name became nothing but another meaningless word.

Until he forgot her completely.
