Karen's POV

The noise of the restaurant felt miles away. My hands were still trembling, my heart pounding like a war drum in my chest. Drew Sheard — a man I'd never even met — had just claimed me like I was his possession. His words echoed in my mind: You belong to me. The thought felt surreal, like a nightmare wrapped in silk and menace.

I glanced at my family. Mama's face was pale, eyes wide with fear and disbelief. Twinkie's lips moved in silent prayer. Jacky's hand never left my back, a steady anchor in the storm. Dorinda's jaw was tight, her fingers curling like she wanted to explode.

"Who is he?" I finally whispered, my voice shaking.

Mama swallowed hard. "That's Drew Sheard."

The name hit me like a bullet.

"He's dangerous, Karen," Mama said, her voice barely above a whisper. "One of the most feared men in the city — a mafia boss."

I blinked. Mafia? My mind tried to process it all. How did this stranger, this man I'd never met, know my name? Why did he think I belonged to him?

Before I could ask, Drew was back at our table, his presence like a shadow stretching over us all.

"You don't understand," he said, his voice low but commanding. "Karen and I... this is bigger than you think."

I shook my head, trying to pull away from the invisible chains tightening around me. "I don't know you. You don't get to decide who I am."

His eyes flashed with something fierce, almost desperate. "You don't get to decide either."

I swallowed hard, looking around at my family. Their worried faces told me I wasn't alone in this.

Jacky stood, her voice steady but fierce. "You're not taking her anywhere."

Drew's gaze flicked to Jacky, then to all of us. "I'm not asking."

The restaurant had gone silent. Even the regular chatter had stopped, like the world was holding its breath.

I wanted to run. I wanted to scream. But my legs felt rooted to the floor, my mind caught in a web of confusion and fear.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed in my purse.

A message from Twinkie: Stay calm. We'll figure this out.

Hope flickered, fragile but real.

Drew's POV

She's scared.

Good.

She should be.

But this isn't just about fear.

It's about fate. About what was meant to be.

Karen is mine. Always has been.

Watching her live untouched, unaware—it's been my curse and my obsession.

But today, I'm done waiting.

No more shadows.

No more silence.

She will know.

She belongs to me.

And I'll make sure everyone else does too.

Karen's Thoughts

I didn't know what to believe.

All I knew was Drew Sheard was a man I never wanted to meet.

And somehow, he'd already taken everything from me.
