After a powerful Sunday service, the Clark Sisters were ready for nothing more than food, laughter, and a peaceful afternoon. But peace was the last thing coming.
Out of nowhere, Drew Sheard-Detroit's most feared and powerful mafia boss-appeared, cu...
Karen's POV Drew told me I had 25 minutes to get ready, but my heart was pounding. Fear still clung to me like a shadow, the memory of what he'd done not far from my mind. But deep down, a small voice urged me to try — maybe this time would be different. I told myself to be brave.
Taking a deep breath, I slowly made my way downstairs.
When I reached the bottom step, Drew was waiting for me. He didn't say much, just reached out and gently grabbed my hand. His touch was firm but calm, and for a moment, I felt a strange mix of comfort and unease. He led me toward the front door.
Outside, the cool evening air hit my face, crisp and fresh. Drew walked with me, his hand still holding mine, and when we reached the car, he opened the door for me with the same quiet respect he always showed.
"We're on our way to a restaurant," he said, voice low but sure.
"Okay," I whispered.

Nobody's POV Drew and Karen arrived at the restaurant, the evening sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky with soft oranges and purples.
Drew had already made a reservation. The hostess greeted them warmly.
"Name?" she asked.
"Sheard," Drew replied smoothly.
"Right this way," she said, leading them through the softly lit dining room. A table near the window awaited, offering a view of the city lights flickering on.
They sat down, menus handed to them. The waiter approached soon after, patiently waiting for their orders.
Karen scanned the menu, surprisingly feeling a spark of excitement.
They ordered their meals — Drew went with the filet mignon, cooked medium rare with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus.
Karen chose grilled salmon, drizzled with lemon butter, served with wild rice and sautéed vegetables.
As they talked and laughed, the atmosphere between them softened. Karen felt the tight knot in her chest loosen just a bit. She actually found herself enjoying the moment — smiling, even laughing. It felt like a glimpse of normalcy, a sliver of the life she once dreamed of.

Karen's POV We talked about little things—music, memories, even silly stories from childhood. I caught myself laughing a few times, something I hadn't done with Drew in a long time.
The food was delicious, but what made it special was the rare warmth between us.
After we finished, Drew stood up, helping me to my feet. His hand found mine again.
"Do you want to do anything else?" he asked, eyes searching mine.
"Skating," I said, almost surprised at myself.
He smiled softly. "Okay."
Outside, the cool night air wrapped around us as we walked to the car. Drew unlocked the door and held it open for me once more, the gentleman I used to know shining through.
About thirty minutes later, we arrived at the skating rink. Drew paid the attendant without hesitation so we could both skate.
Hand in hand, we glided across the ice. At first, I was shaky, unsure of my footing, but with Drew's steady presence beside me, I felt safer.
We laughed when I stumbled, and he teased me gently, making the cold evening feel a little warmer.

Drew's POV For the first time in a long time, I saw my baby smile without fear. She wasn't scared of me tonight. That alone made my heart swell.
After about an hour on the ice, I looked at her and said, "Let's go."
She nodded, and we made our way back to the car.
She wasn't going home tonight.
I wanted to spend more time with her.
On the drive back, she didn't look scared when I turned toward my house. I think deep down, she knew she was coming with me.
About an hour and a half later, we arrived.
Inside, Karen went straight upstairs to our room to freshen up.
She washed up and changed into soft, comfortable night clothes.
I did the same.
When we got into bed, I pulled her close, wrapping my arms around her waist.
I kissed her forehead softly and whispered, "Good night. I love you."
She mumbled back, "Good night."
