***Cammie's P.O.V***
"Yo sexy thang!!! I have your fruit salad!" Danielle called out, jumping on top of my bed with my fruit salad in hand.
"Thank you." I used the spoon to scoop up a grape, letting it roll around in the spoon's cup before dropping it back in the bowl, then picking it back up again. Suddenly, I wasn't so hungry.
"Cammie? Baby, you gotta eat," Danielle pointed out, stealing a cube of watermelon from my bowl. Usually the only food I eat without purging back up is fruit and vegetables, and that's only because I understand that you gain no weight from eating that. But, I don't know. I'm just not hungry.
"I'm just not hungry anymore, Danielle," I said truthfully.
"Well do you want me to get you something else?" she suggested.
"No thank you."
"Why are you suddenly being so formal with me? I mean, it's polite, but you haven't been this way with me in the entire week that you've met me. Why now?" she asked.
I shrugged and buried my face deeper into my pillow. After a few minutes of silence, I lifted my head and looked at Danielle to find her biting her lip and staring blankly at the opposite wall. I shifted so that I was on my knees and leaning over to give Dani a hug.
"I'm sorry, Dani. I've just, like, never really had a friend before. I'm used to doing everything on my own. This is all different and I'm not really sure how to act. I'm sorry," I apologized into the hug.
Dani giggled and pushed me away. "That's the reason you're being all polite? I thought I actually did something wrong," she chuckled. I smiled softly and shook my head. She rewrapped her hands around me and I found myself with a mouthful of her bushy, curly hair.
"Dani, your hair," I said, spitting the hair out of my mouth and making little splutter sounds with my mouth trying to remove all the hair.
"Whoops. Cam, you're really skinny. Like, I can feel your ribs," she marveled, feeling the bones underneath my tank top. "You eat, right?"
"Of course," I said. It's not really a lie. I do eat. I just dispose of the food shortly after consuming it. "I just work out a lot. That's all."
"Oh. Well, you wanna go to the beach tomorrow with me, Liam, and the boys? We were gonna bring a picnic and everything."
I bit my lip and gave Dani the look telling her I wasn't really sure. Danielle got the message and held up her hands in surrender, leaping off my bed and towards the bedroom door. "Sleep on it, okay? And bandage those cuts. I'm sure you don't want any of the boys seeing them." Danielle winked at me and made to leave.
"Danielle!" I called out, stopping her. She turned around, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion. "I'll go tomorrow," I agreed. Danielle smiled widely and clapped her hands together.
"Yay! I'll go get you your new bathing suit!" she cried out, skipping out of my room.
"Wait, new bathing suit?!" I called after her. Alas, I was too late. That girl was long gone. I sighed and trudged over to the bathroom, throwing the bloody towel in the laundry basket and grabbing two band-aids from the first aid kit I had under the sink. Humming to myself, I opened the band-aids and covered the fresh cuts before leaving the bathroom, only to come face to face with Liam.
I screamed, by instinct, of course. This in turn caused him to scream, dropping whatever he was holding. "Liam, yeesh, you scared me."
"I see that."
"And you scream like a girl," I giggled. Liam smirked and picked up whatever he dropped. "What is that?" I asked, my giggling coming to an abrupt stop.
"Some bathing suit that Danielle said you have to wear tomorrow and if you don't, then, and I quote, 'Your toes will be cut off and become the finger food for tomorrow's lunch.'" I wrinkled my nose in disgust at the mental image of my toes cut up and served on dinner platter. "Yeah, so please, wear it. I don't wanna eat your toes," Liam continued.
I giggled and took the bathing suit from Liam, observing it, judging it. It was a two piece, both the top and bottom styled with black and white stripes. It was honestly pretty cute.
I looked up from the suit t find Liam still standing awkwardly in my room, wringing his hands. I sighed and cast the suit on my bed before leaning against the wall across from Liam. "Liam, look, I-," I started.
"Cammie, I'm sorry! I'm an awful brother! I was just scared that in school, I would make a fool of myself in front of my friends, so I just ignored you. And that's not what a brother's supposed to do. A good brother anyway. And by doing that, I looked more like a fool than I would have if I just treated you like my little sister. And I'm truly sorry," he apologized, his face turning even sadder than before.
"Liam, it's alright. I admit, I was hurt. My own brother was ignoring me and pretending I didn't exist at a new school where I knew no one. It was already enough I was neglected at home. Still am," I said, muttering the last part.
"Cammie-,"
"Just don't, Liam. I forgive you. I get it. Reputation and friends are important to you. I just thought I would make your top ten as well." I turned around, heading towards the bathroom, my safe haven, when Liam pulled me back to him by my elbow. I was turned around and landed in Liam's chest as his arms wrapped around me in an iron grip.
"You do, Cammie. You do. And I will spend this whole month that I'm here on break trying to prove that to you. I wanna be the big brother I should've been before."
I nodded my head, convinced that he was actually going to try this. Liam let me go and kissed the top of my forehead, gently, so I wouldn't freak out. "So how's fame?" I asked Liam.
"Honestly, hopefully, it hasn't changed me. How's life here in Wolverhampton?"
"Boring. No one ever comes by, except surprise girlfriends. I ran into Gabe yesterday though. He wants to meet up with you while you're home."
"I'll give him a ring later on tomorrow. So, Danielle surprised you too?"
I chuckled. "Liam, I didn't even know you had a girlfriend."
"But we're, like, all over the news and stuff," Liam responded, a little confused.
I shrugged, eyeing my shoes. "I didn't really wanna keep track of you guys. I thought fame would've changed you and you wouldn't come home and stuff and yeah," I tried to explain, trailing off towards the end.
"So, how do you like Danielle?" he asked, changing the subject.
"Dani's amazing! I love her! She's my bestest friend!" I giggled, batting my eyelashes like a three year old.
"God, Cammie, you're like a little kid," Liam chuckled. "Well I'm glad you like her because I plan on keeping her around for a long time."
I smiled, hugging him once more. His hand stroked the ends of my hair and for once in my life, I actually felt like I had family.
