Hailie and Walker have been cast as each other's love interests in their new movie. They quickly develop a close friendship, but sometimes they wonder if there could be more.
Today I took Hailie to the botanical gardens for our morning walks. It was beautiful and I knew she would love it, Hailie is the type to be enchanted by the vibrant and cute colors of summer plants and flowers. As we were taking slow stroll through the garden, I saw her face light up in joy.
"Walker! Look, they're pink tulips. They're my favorite," She says her voice eager.
I looked out at the garden of tulips of different colors and sizes, they were gorgeous and I think it was fitting that they were her favorite. Gorgeous flower for a gorgeous girl.
"They're beautiful," I say looking out at the fields and row of tulips "I never knew how mesmerizing they were."
But now I'm no longer staring out into the field my focus in on her face as she stares out admiring the flowers the same way I admire her.
"Oh hey, I forgot to tell you yesterday but I finished the book you gave me," I say to Hailie, a radiant smile spread across her face.
"Oh my God! Already, did you like it?" She asked me as we continued to walk through the rows and rows of pink and yellow tulips.
"Yes I loved the book, thank you for the recommendation. Truthfully I haven't read one book since I finished the whole Percy Jacksonverse books, so it's been a while since I forgot how impressive reading is." I tell her, and she nods, proud of herself for picking out a good book for me.
"Well, if you want there are two more books in the series and they are just as good." She recommends "In fact I just finished my book as well, thank you Walker it was really adorable."
We continued to discuss the books we read together, and she began going on a rant about her characters and the things to do, she's been talking for 7 minutes and I've been listening for 7 minutes. Anything Hailie says is important to me, I listen closely as if she's giving me advice on how to solve every problem in the world. Because with Haile everything matters.
We made it near the end of the garden, it was lovely maybe it can be a spot where Hailie and I can make a common appearance.
"Hey Hailie, I'm going to get myself some coffee at that little shop right there want anything?" I ask her.
"No I'm okay, thank you though. I'm going to go to the restroom, so meet you right here?" She asks me.
"Deal."
She walks off to the bathroom and I head over to the small little coffee shop area, in the corner. I order a latte for myself and start looking at the other small shops stationed in Farmer's Market format. Then I spotted a florist shop. It had bright and vivid colors just the type Hailie loves. I walk over and greet the old lady working there.
"So what type of flowers are you looking for today, young man? The old lady questions me as she points to all her different arrangements of flowers and vases.
"Do you have pink tulips?" I ask remembering how Hailie's face lit up when she saw the pink tulip field.
"Yes, I do. Now who are you shopping for today?" She interrogates.
"Ummm..," What am I supposed to say? Girlfriend, no. Friend, sure but she feels like so much more to me than a friend. "A girl," I utter and she nods her head in understanding. I'm sure she's seen it all, the bad relationships, the good relationships, and the 'not-excactly-sure-what-we-are relationships.'
I bought the tulips and headed over to where we agreed would be our meeting spot and waited just a little, but even the minute or two I was waiting for her felt like hours. My heart raced in exhilaration, giving a pretty girl a bouquet of her favorite flowers, the younger me would've been proud.
I see Hailie coming out of the bathroom and I quickly hide the bouquet behind my back hoping she didn't seen them.
"Hey Walker!" She exclaims and notices my hand behind my back "What's behind you're back?"
I pull out the bouquet of pink tulips and present them to Hailie with a warm smile. Hailie's eyes widened with delight as she took in the beauty of the flowers, her heart overflowing with love.
"Walker, they're so pretty. I'm speechless thank you so much, Walker." She thanked, her eyes glistening with tears of joy, she threw her arms around me and we stood in the hug for 10 more seconds taking in each other's presence.
