HARLEY DEFINITELY DID NOT TAKE THE NEWS WELL. Not because she thinks it's wrong per se, but she definitely doesn't like being left in the dark. It's annoying. Her behaviour. But then I remembered how I felt when I found out Mars had told practically everyone (it feels like) other than Sylvie, Lope, and I up until recently and...well, maybe Harley is valid in feeling the way that she does.
"Like...does she just get sick instead or...?" Harley asks as we make our way back to camp.
"I don't know." I shrug, "I haven't known that long."
"Not from what I can tell." Vee answers before wincing slightly when we make eye contact. It's no secret that Lope and I feel a little...betrayed would put it nicely - by the fact that Mars told Vee and Seb before us. Despite them being, at a time, the enemy.
Vee continues, "She's completely normal after she's bitten. I mean - the wound hurts sure, she's just been practically stabbed but with teeth - but her personality doesn't change...she seems well enough...we don't know what the virus does to her."
"So far we've estimated it does nothing." I shrug, "That for some reason it doesn't affect her."
"Are you sure she just hasn't turned yet?" Harley asks rather skeptically - like she can't wrap her head around it yet.
I roll my eyes, "An hour or a minute. You know the rules. Apparently the first time she was bit was about a year ago."
"And she's been bitten I think two more times after that." Vee pipes up.
"I just...does that mean a cure exists and she got it?" Harley sputters.
"She was born that way." I shrug.
"I'm so confused." Harley mutters.
Vee lets out a scoff before walking up behind her and slinging an arm around her shoulder, "We all were the first time we found out."
"How many people know? In order, go." Harley demands, although to my surprise, doesn't push Vee off of her.
"First it was Blake." Vee lifts up a finger on the hand that's around her shoulder, "Then Gray...then I think Seb and I found out next. We found out at the same time you see - and then Sylvie, Lope and Petra found out when Mars was initially taken aaaaaand now you and Rikki."
"So only nine people?"
"No." I shake my head, "Blake told us Anais and Ella also know."
"Of course they do." Harley shakes her head, "Anais and her scheming...always keeping things a secret..."
"We know I'm all for the Anais-is-crazy agenda, but in this case I'm pretty sure they only kept it a secret because Blake made them." I point out, "He's crazy protective over Mars."
