[14] No Matter How Lost

The day was gloomy and quite cold. I wasn't very fond of these rainy days that we'd been having on and off for the past few months.  I wasn't exactly dressed for such weather because I had expected today to be more of a warm day. The past few days had been on and off with the heat and the rain. So it was hard to tell which today was going to be. But it wasn't too cold to handle.

I stood there, outside of the coffee shop, letting the winds - which were slowly growing harsher - blow against my face.

My eyes were closed because Jason had told me that he had something for me. But I couldn't look until he was ready. So I waited, slightly amused. I couldn't imagine what he could possibly have for me.

"Can I open my eyes now?" I asked Jason.

"Not yet." I could hear the smile in his voice.

He had told me that it wasn't anything big but he had bought it specially for me.

"Okay," Jason said. "Now open them." He had placed a small box in my hand.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked down at the box curiously for a moment and then opened it.

Inside was the most beautiful silver locket I had ever seen. It was the shape of a heart and it was beautifully shiny. The word 'hope' was engraved on the front.

"I..." I couldn't get any words to come out.

It was a gift. For me. Me of all people. And it was so beautiful.

Jason could have chosen anyone in the world to buy this for...and he chose me. He could have chosen any girl in the world to be spending time with...and he chose me.

"Do you like it?" He asked after a moment of me staying silent.

I looked up at him. "Like it? I love it! I-It's beautiful."

Jason helped me to put the necklace around me neck.

"And..." I said softly, looking down at the necklace. "It says Hope..."

"Yeah. I wanted you to remember that there's always hope...no matter how lost you feel."

Tears lingered in my eyes. "I-I don't know what to say."

"Don'y worry. You don't have to say anything. Your happiness is enough for me."

Suddenly I felt something wet fall on my hand. I figured it was only tears. But then I realized that the drops weren't coming from my eyes, but from the sky. I looked up and a few more drops fell on my face. The dark clouds were rolling into the sky quickly.

It started out as a small sprinkle of raindrops that fell to the ground with a light pitter-patter. But it quickly started falling harder.

I wrapped my arms around myself with a shiver. A top with thick straps rather than sleeves along with denim Capris wasn't exactly the best outfit for a rainstorm.

I looked to Jason. He was dressed more appropriately for the weather. He wore a black leather jacket along with a white t shirt and dark jeans.

Jason grabbed my hand and we started to run for cover. Our first try was to go back into the coffee shop. But it was closed by this time. So we looked around for somewhere to get out of the rain.

The rain kept falling harder and the winds didn't make it any better. It just made it colder.

With no where to go to escape the water that was pouring from the sky and starting to soak us, we ducked underneath a large tree.

My clothes and my hair were now dripping. And I was so cold. I was shivering and trying to keep my teeth from chattering.

I looked out at the rain. There was no way it was going to let up very soon. We'd be stuck here until...well, we'd be here for a while.

Jason took off his jacket and wrapped it around me. Then he put his arm around me - despite the fact that I was soaked - and pulled me close, noticing that I was now sneezing.

I layed my head on him and let him try and keep me warm.

I closed my eyes. I was cold but I was slowly warming up in Jason's arms.

My mind began to wander and I wrapped my hand around the locket that hung around my neck. Hope. Jason wanted me to have hope. No matter how lost I felt...

(A/N Okay so, I'm really sorry if this story is dragging right now. I have plans for this story. I just don't want to carry out all my plans too fast, because I don't want the story to end to fast. I also kind of got caught up with making Jason and Serenity be cute together...and it's been too long since I've updated so I had to just make a chapter to put up. I don't wanna lose readers!  Annnddd...I think that's it! Don't forget to vote and comment!)
