Engine backstories:
Edward was the first engine to be purchased for the railway and helped Neil, Clive, and Matthew build it. When it was done, he was given local trains and small freights as his primary duties.
When the idea of an express route was brought upon by customers, Sir Topham Hatt ordered two new engines (Gordon and Henry) to pull them and titled the train "The Wild Nor Wester" and Edward would have presumably been Knapford's pilot engine.
Sir Topham Hatt bought Geoffery to assist with larger freight duties and 98462 to assist with local trains. He also then bought James (who in this universe did not have wooden brakes) to work along the brendam branch line for a little while before James was put on mainline duties.
Edward was eventually assigned the branch line to Brendam.
the backstories for jinty, pug, & marklin are unavailable, but it can be assumed that sir topham hatt trialed them as yard workers not long after they were built.
