"Yes, yes, happy reunion," Zoya called out from her spot on the ship. "Can we get on with it?"
Kaz's newest plan was simple. He, Jesper, Wylan, and Tolya would find Nikolai and assist him as needed. Zoya, Nina, Inej, and Paedyn would find Alina and give her the blade.
"Zoya, thank you. If you'd been a moment later, we-" Alina began but cut herself off when Nina and Paedyn walked towards the edge of the ship, near Zoya. "Oh, hello Paedyn, and..."
"Hello, Alina. Heard you found yourself in some trouble." Paedyn grinned.
Alina nodded. "I think I have something for you." She gestured at something behind one of the barrels encased in the darkness and Paedyn gasped as her sister walked out from behind it.
"Evie," she whispered, jumping down onto solid ground. "Evie!"
"Pae? Oh my Saints-"
Both sisters ran for each other, wrapping their arms tightly around one another. Evangeline always was taller and Paedyn smiled as she was still able to snuggle into her sister's shoulder.
"How I've missed you," her sister said softly as she pulled away, brushing the hairs of Paedyn's cheeks. "I... how are you? I have so many questions, had so many questions since I saw you back in Os Alta, but I'll start with that. How are you?"
"I'm great, really. Things were tough, at first, but I've got some great friends-" she smiled at Inej, "I was so happy when Zoya found us and said you were okay."
Evangeline smiled, ready to speak when Zoya spoke up.
"Alright ladies, let's get going. We've got a heretic to kill." She smirked as she returned to her position by the sails. Upon boarding, Evangeline went to her side, adding more wind to the sails.
As the ship went deeper into the Fold, Paedyn stood close to her sister. They whispered a bit as they moved, keeping their voices low as they caught up.
"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have left you," Paedyn whispered after hearing the stories of what Kirigan did to her.
"Don't be. I'm not. You got out and you're thriving. You've got friends, and apparently a boy who's caught your eye. I can't say I haven't done the same, Kirigan had me a lot, but I made plenty of friends."
"Where did you go? When Kirigan came back?"
"Niko-" she cleared her throat, "Prince Nikolai found me and Zoya and brought us somewhere safe. He hid many people of Ravka, where we stayed until his monsters found us."
"Don't usually use the title, do you?" Paedyn teased.
"Shush." Evangeline pulled her little sister into a side hug. "I'm just glad you're okay."
"This is it," Alina's voice pulled them back to reality. The Squallers stopped the ship, letting everyone get off. "The Heart of the Fold. Where Kirigan first damned this country into darkness. This is where we stand a chance of bringing it down."
