Joel's Perspective-
Joel was having dinner with his mother and her boyfriend when someone knocked on the door.
His mother looked confused, and she got up to answer it.
She gasped as she saw who was there.
Joel and his mother's boyfriend, Josh, got up to see who it was.
Joel's eyes widened as he saw Etho, who was soaking wet.
"H-hey. It rained harder as I ran here." He said, his voice shaking.
"Etho?!"
-
"Thank you." Etho said, smiling as Joel's mother handed him a towel and a cup of hot chocolate.
Etho blew on the drink before sipping it.
"Alright, why are you here?" Joel asked, folding his arms, "You're supposed to be in Wisconsin far away from me and we're not supposed to be on speaking terms."
Etho sighed, "Me and my mom moved back."
"Why? Wait- what do you mean your mom? I thought you had two."
Etho looked up at Joel with tear filled eyes and Joel felt a wave of guilt wash over him.
"She didn't- she's okay, right?"
Etho slowly shook his head.
"We moved back to be closer with family." Etho whispered, "I've been back for a bit now, but because of where I moved too, I go to a different school."
"But...why are you here? At my house? And how did you even know I would be at my mom's house?"
"Adam told me."
"Adam?"
"I ran into him earlier and he- he told me that..." Etho trailed off and Joel raised an eyebrow.
"That?"
Etho took a deep breath.
"That you like me."
...
Joel's face flushed red.
"And- and I'd like to say that- "
"That was a while ago! I don't like you anymore." Joel lied, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
Etho looked up at Joel and they made eye contact.
Etho sighed and walked towards the door.
"Well, if that's how you feel I guess I just wasted my time." He turned the doorknob and Joel grabbed Etho's arm.
"Wait." Joel said and Etho turned to him.
Joel sighed and looked down.
"I do still like you." He whispered.
Etho smiled and blushed.
"Well...I think I like you too."
Joel smiled at Etho who smiled back.
"Wanna go out this weekend?" Joel asked and Etho smiled.
"I'd love too."
