"Ken, Maya! Hurry!" Pablo and Vester laughed as Joshua honked his car horn in the middle of the street.
People in their homes couldn't help looking out their windows to see what was happening. Some even went out to the street, thinking there was an accident and somebody was hurt. Pablo and Vester kept laughing while Justin remained silent with a smile. He never thought the five would be friends, yet they acted like stupid children. Ken and Maya finally came out of the house.
"You're such an ass, Josh," Ken commented, trying his best not to laugh.
"I know; that's why I'm fun to be with. Buckle up!" And just like that, Josh drove like a madman with their new favorite song blasting from the speakers in the car.
Most people would say friendship begins with something beautiful. It could be an unexpected encounter or first conversation, but to the five of them, but not them. Pablo, Justin, and Vester have known each other almost all their lives. They were childhood best friends until Pablo decided to stop hanging out with the two. Joshua moved to town Three years ago, and it wasn't until last year that he decided to enroll at Moontown High. People knew he was homeschooled.
Ken should have been the odd man out. Why not? He was the new kid in town, yet they all just clicked for some reason. Despite their differences or whatever happened between them in the past, they became inseparable. It was something that most teenagers could only dream of.

"Pablo, hurry up! Josh is here!" Elena called out to her eldest son when Joshua Alexander arrived. "Would you like a glass of juice, Josh?"
"No, thank you, Mrs. Rae," Joshua replied politely, but his expression changed into confusion when he saw Elena's smile disappear.
"Oh, boy," Chris commented jokingly.
"Josh, you ready? Mom, we have to—" Pablo also became confused when he saw his mom's face.
"Did you not tell him how to address me?" Elena asked in a serious tone.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am. I didn't want to offend you." Joshua immediately apologized, thinking he said something wrong.
"Offend me?" Elena's expression changed. She even touched her chest where her heart was and acted hurt. "Sweety, you did not offend me. You hurt my feelings."
Pablo and Chris started laughing, but Josh still looked lost.
"Don't mind my wife, son. She's playing you. Don't call us Mr. and Mrs. or Ma'am and Sir. Call us Uncle Chris and Auntie Elena, just like Vester and Justin. Cool?" Chris suddenly spoke, still smiling.
"Yeah, they don't like formality. Come on." Pablo said before kissing his mother on the cheeks and waving his hand to his father.
"Oh, okay. Bye, Auntie Elena. Bye, Uncle Chris."
As soon as the boys were gone, Elena's expression changed completely. She quickly took out the box she hid in the kitchen cabinet and emptied its contents to show her husband all the information she gathered. There were crime scene photos, witness statements, and results of forensic tests, but the most important was the arrowhead she found in the bushes near the house. As soon as her husband saw the arrowhead, he quickly recognized it.
"Hunters? Why would they do that? What did the Martinez do?" Chris asked, full of confusion. It has been a very long time since the hunters killed one of them without a reason.
"No, it wasn't them because I also found this." Elena took out a yellow petal.
"Vampires." A low growl escaped from Chris's throat. Just the thought of vampires hunting them made his blood boil. "They are doing it again."
