In the dead of the night, Vester and Justin once again sat in front of the Jaegers's home, waiting for anyone to tell them that Ken and his father were safe. Every time they look up at the night sky, they see dark clouds forming. It seemed it would rain at any moment. Vester silently kept asking himself why he didn't know what was happening. He used his power to spy on Pablo, but it didn't seem to have worked.
He returned to Justin's house to get some snacks to pass the time as he remembered that they hadn't had anything for dinner. They'd been worried and anxious for two days, and not knowing what was going on only made it worse for them. Vester could see how Justin tried to calm himself down, but it was apparent that he felt worse.
"Look, is that them?" Vester announced when he saw headlights coming their way.
"Holy Mother, yes! Oh, thank the Father!"
They were right. When the black SUV stopped, Mr. Jaeger exited the car carrying a motionless Ken. Vester's hand automatically moved to cover his mouth when he saw Ken's state. Their friend was almost unrecognizable, and it literally broke his heart. Justin instantly clenched his fist in anger after seeing what had happened to Ken. Vester felt angry, too. He wanted to find who hurt his friend and drown them in boiling water to make them suffer as much as Ken did.
"Oh, Mother of Mercy!" Vester burst into tears when he saw Ken up close.
"Who did this to him?" Justin's voice was different. He sounded angry and dark.
"It's okay, guys. He'll be fine. We appreciate you looking after our home while we're gone." Maya appeared behind her father. She looked emotionless, and no matter how hard he tried to read her, Vester couldn't get anything from her.
"Justin, let's get back to your house. They need to rest. Ken needs to rest." Vester understood the situation.
"Maya, are you okay?" Justin asked when he saw Maya massaging her head, as did another guy her age.
"Justin, let's go."
Vester dragged Justin away from the Jaeger because he felt their presence wasn't welcome. He wrapped his arm around his best friend's shoulder and guided him back to his house. When they were far enough, Vester thought of something to help them understand what was happening.
"Do you know a spell to help us listen to their conversations from afar?" Vester whispered to Justin, who looked at him with confusion at first, but a few seconds later, Justin understood what he meant.
"Yeah. Let's get inside the house."
When Justin cast the spell, they started listening to Jaegers's private conversation, which they both regretted. Everything they'd heard made them doubt the friendship they built with Ken. But what Ken said in his room once his family left him to rest shocked them even more. They didn't know that discovering the truth would destroy something so beautiful. They were both shaken when they realized they didn't truly know their friends.
"How can Joshua be a vampire? How did I not notice?" They heard Ken said to himself.
"Holy Father!" Vester and Justin gasped in shock at what they heard.

-Flashback-
"Oh! Damn!" The strong scent of chemicals from factories nearby attacked Pablo's sense of smell. "Holy Father, I hate going to places like this."
Pablo tried to get a sense of his surroundings with every bit of focus he could summon. The vicinity was loud from the cars buzzing in the streets, and he couldn't focus on the heartbeats because there were too many. As he fixed the parking of his motorcycle, he took in a few deep breaths and tried to listen to his surroundings again. There was too much noise, but eventually, he managed to focus.
