Brayden

Ever since I asked her to prom Sarah has been really upbeat and filled with an energy that was unusual for her.
Not that I'm complaining about my girlfriend being happy, not at all.
More along the lines of how she seemed to magically come out of a slump that she had been in for while.
Maybe that was all due to the prom.
Like I said, most people thought that it was a big deal, maybe she was one of them.
If that was the case I hope that the time until the dance goes by slowly so that I can enjoy the sight of my wide grinned bright eyed girlfriend for as long as possible.
Right now I am skipping class so that I can eat lunch with her.
Feigning stomach issues so that I could get a nurse's pass and be released by my teacher. I could have just asked to use the bathroom but I wouldn't have been able to bring my bag then. Besides, it wasn't a complete lie. I am hungry and my stomach is rumbling. I was just going directly to the source to fix the issue, it just so happens that my girlfriend has lunch at this time as well.
Solving two needs in one stride.
Hiking my bag higher up on my shoulder as I enter the lunchroom scanning all the tables until I catch sight of that long gorgeous golden brown hair.
It was so long that at times she reminded me of rapunzel.
Down to her waist, sometimes I would wrap the length in my hand and will for the powers of the glowing hair to heal us both.
That was my little secret.
Her nickname that only i know.
Right now she was in a conversation waving her hands all about as Amara sits next to her full on laughing at whatever story my rapunzel was telling.
Neither one of them is aware as I walk towards them.
The thought of wrapping my hands over my girlfriend's eyes was my first instinct.
Just a playful interaction that a lot of couples do, but one that I would never do to her.
Not since she told me of the memory of where she was grabbed from behind and dragged away.
I will not be responsible for reminding her of that or putting her back into that state of panic.
Instead I curve around a few tables until I'm able to come around from the front.
Amara noticed me first, elbowing Sarah in her side, shutting her up as well as putting her in a state of confusion as she looked around trying to find what the intrusion was.
Maybe she thought that it was those friends of Christy who had this same lunch, gearing up for whatever they were about to dish.
When her sight landed on me instead, that harsh look turned into a toothy smile as she jumped up and ran around the table practically jumping into my arms.
Catching her mid air, our lips connecting as I settled her feet back onto the ground praying that no teachers were around to break up this rare pda moment.
That was another thing with her.
Before she was hesitant to kiss me in public, to do much more than his or hold hands and now it's like she's letting the world know that I'm hers.
Again not something that I mind, just an observation. Acknowledging the change from how things had been before.
Too soon the kiss was over and I was being dragged to sit down next to her as she got back to her seat.
"What are you doing here? Don't you have a class right now?"
"Yes but I wanted to come see my girlfriend so I figured that was a valid excuse to miss a little bit of world history. It's not like it's going to change in the amount of time that I'm here."
Catching her slight eye roll as she leans her body into mine.
"So what grand conversation did I interrupt?"
"She was telling me about y'all going to the park and how a little boy pushed you into the pond." Amara chimed in, an eyebrow nicked up daring me to deny the story.
"Alright yeah, we were on a walk and I reached down and picked up a rock to throw into the pond since she dared me to see how far I could throw. Next thing I know this little boy comes running up to me screaming about how I messed up his race track. Apparently the rocks were the markers and I just so happened to pick one of them up. Honest mistake. They all looked the same to me."
"Yeah and then the little boy pushed him and he tripped over a tree branch and fell back first into the water." Sarah chimed in laughing so hard she barely got the words out. "The kid was so terrified that he was going to get into trouble that he ran off before Brayden could even stand back up."
"Do you know how long it took for my jeans to dry? Let alone the seat in my car?"
Both of them were full on laughing now as I just shook my head.
"It was still wet the next morning. I had to get a towel to sit on just to drive to school."
That only elicited more laughter from the two of them. By now a few other tables have started to look over to figure out what the deal was but I ignored all of them. This wasn't any of their business anyways.
Leaning down catching the opening her next caused a sharp intake of breath as I kissed the soft skin under her ear.
Not missing the look of sadness on Amaras face before the smile came back and her laughter died out as well.
Wondering what that was about but not wanting to pry.
"If we are telling embarrassing stories I have a couple." Wincing at the quick jab I received in my stomach looking down not see a very squinched up face staring up at me. A face that I knew was meant to look menacing but only made her look adorable.
"Don't you dare."
Making a show of rubbing my hand over my shirt even though the slight throbbing of pain had already dissipated.
"But seriously though you and I need to go dress shopping." Sarah announced as she turned her attention back to her best friend.
"Yeah we do," she agreed. "I honestly don't even know what kind of dress i want so this is going to be fun."
Girls and shopping. Another thing I don't think I will ever understand but maybe when I see her in the dress I will.
Picking up the half eaten slice of pizza on her plate and devouring the thing in three bites to curb some of my hunger since I never actually did get any food though she didn't seem to mind offering some of her water to me as they continued on talking about different cuts and styles of dresses.
All of it going over my head.
Just happy to sit here and listen to her excitement as well as amaras.
I'm not sure if she has a date yet which surprises me. Considering that she was on the dance team I would think that she would have a flock of guys around her and considering the fact that she was attractive leaves me confused as to why I haven't heard of anyone asking her yet.
In tone of appearance her and sarah were almost like yin and yang which is probably why they fit so well together.
Amara had medium tone tanned skin and long dark that looked black until it got under the sun where the shades of brown could be seen, brown full eyes and she had unmistakable curves.
Any guy would be lucky to take her to the dance.
Could that be what the hint of sadness was from earlier.
Seeing us together made her realize that she didn't have anyone for herself.
Her dance team was over. There were no more competitions, no more training or lessons to take up her time.
Now we were each fighting to get Sarah's attention, sometimes even having to flip a coin to get alone time with her.
Shaking my head at the thought of having to share my girlfriend but knowing that she needed time with her best friend as well.
I had just liked it better before, when amara had been busy and i had my girlfriend to myself.
Sometimes one of us became the third wheel though Sarah always made sure that we were each getting equal treatment.
That was another thing I liked so much about her.
She cares deeply for the people close to her and she isn't afraid to show it.
Maybe we could find Amara a date and she would spend her time getting to know him and I could have my girlfriend mostly to myself again.
That sounded like a good plan.
