Chapter 4: The river incident

What is this guy's deal? At first he seems like a super chill dude, bonding nicely with many people in our group, then he just straight up bullys someone right in front of everyone with some other douchebags! I could see Nikolas starting to hyperventilate from all that was happening around him, so I started rubbing circles on his back to calm him down.

I could tell that this wasn't the first time something like this was happening to him. And I have reached the conclusion that this Hunter and the other boys have known Nicholas long before the summer camp. I may not be the greatest person out there when it comes to socialising, but I could tell that something was wrong with the way Nikolas was behaving when I met him. Thankfully I have never been targeted by any form of bullying or abuse, but I once knew someone who has.

So I am familiar with the way a victim reacts and behaves, when said individual has or is undergoing some kind of mistreatment. And Nicholas was no different. The way he talked, his stuttering was concerning, as well as his injuries. It was clear that his claim of falling down the stairs was an excuse to hide what truly transpired.

He was assaulted, beaten to a pulp by some people, that I am pretty sure are these jerks that just humiliated him. I was beyond enraged. But what angered me the most was that no one else from our table stood up for him apart from me. But at the moment, it didn't matter since what was important was keeping Nick (Nikolas' nickname) safe.

Luckily I didn't get to do anything, as a girl that looked strikingly similar to Hunter appeared, sent one of the bullys flying through the air and the others running for their lives. Then her and Hunter started having a very "heated conversation", to put it lightly, which concluded with the sister saying something that she probably shouldn't have, resulting in Hunter exiting the dinning area, leaving behind a very tense and awkward atmosphere.

It wasn't long before our cabin's leader, Paul,  returned to our table to question what had happened. He was tall and muscular, with a short hair cut and brown eyes. He was wearing a sleeveless black T-shirt and white basketball pants. A tattoo was visible on his shoulder, as well as an annoyed/tired expression present on his face.

       Paul: - What on earth happened here Jessica?

       Jessica: - Nothing really.... I just had to teach my a**hole of a brother some manners.

        Paul: - "sigh" Jessica, I understand I have no say in your family matters, but what I can say, is that it would be best if they were to be dealt with somewhere else, and not in front of little kids.

The leader said while folding his arms on his chest.

        Jessica: - Oh don't be like that babe. You know I prefer that sophisticated tongue of yours, to be used for something else instead of talking when you are with me. Hmmm.💝😘

The girl had a devilish smirk on her lips as she sent a blowing kiss at him. Paul literally turned fifty shades of red in a matter of seconds, before beginning to wave his hands in the air, sputtering things like "not in front of them" or "shameless" and many other that I couldn't quite catch.

     Jessica: - Hahaha, dear you always start malfunctioning when sex related topics are mentioned, especially by me. Although when the real thing happens, you are a monster in bed.

      Paul: - Ha...have you n...no shame woman!?!?!

Most people around us started laughing at the dude's reaction, while some boys blushed as well, due to the suggestive talking. At least it helped eaz the situation a little. I turned to look at Nick, who had thankfully calmed down and was much more relaxed. I chose not to engage in a conversation with him, preferring to confront him when we were alone.
