When I entered the apartment after a long day at university, I immediately felt an unusual tension in the air. The light in the living room shimmered warmly and the giggles reached me in the hallway. Confused, I entered and my eyes fell on the girls sprawled out on my couch. A chorus of cheerful greetings and welcoming smiles greeted me. My friend Soojin laughed joyfully at me, surrounded by her four friends from high school.
Go Yoonjung, who always seemed to be Soojin's better half, radiated an aura of calculation. Her eyes met mine with a hint of calculation, and her black hair framed a round, full, but above all pretty face that revealed little of her inner thoughts. She had been one of the most popular students in our school days alongside Soojin, claiming a lot of knowledge for herself. Now, as a financial analyst, she was very good with numbers, strategic and not necessarily a head case. Sim Jayun, on the other hand, was considered the creative head of the group, with her striking blonde hair and a look of innovation, had been in charge of our activities and events back then. I remembered that she had planned many events and indirectly wondered if some of the situations and experiments Beomgyu was caught up in were also her fault. Her voice was usually loud and her appearance often shouted silent because of her strikingly colorful choice of clothes-even now she was wearing a pink skirt and a squeaky yellow fluffy cuddly jacket-but her lively appearance hid a cynical side.
Shen Xiaoting and Kang Haerin were more on the quiet side. The former had always struck me as an observer. In my eyes, her friendly manner and fiery hair color formed a stark contrast to the dominant personalities in the group.
And Haerin still seemed like the youngest of the girls.
As if she was younger than the rest, although all five were the same age. Her black hair had never been dyed - a phase that even Soojin had gone through - which made the girl look partly as innocent as the height that emphasized her supportive nature. It was so hard to imagine that even Haerin should have been in on this action. After all, especially as an occupational therapist, she was all about harmony.
All four of them were here and seemed to be in a good mood.
There were a few packets of potato chips on the table and the girls also had cocktails in their hands. This was clearly a girls' night out and they couldn't have chosen a worse time for it.
