When I entered my apartment, I could already hear the rustling in my bedroom. It was a rumbling, rumbling and hissing, but I already knew what it was.
I brushed off my shoes, hung my jacket on a hook and headed straight for the room. My friend was sitting on the floor, rummaging in the drawer of the closet and seemed to be looking for something. Her dark, long hair hung veil-like in her face and I leaned against the doorframe with a grin. The thought of the conversation with Soobin had been with me the whole ride home and his insecurity hung on the back of my neck. I could understand it, because I'd thought about it a lot over the last few years.
"I'm back," I told her.
"Hey, baby," she replied with euphoria, and although she had looked like she was desperately searching for something until a moment ago, she straightened up like an attentive puppy and looked at me with loyal eyes. "How was the meal at Soobin's?"
"Bloody delicious, as always," I replied, taking a few steps towards her and placing my hand on her dark mop of hair. Then my eyes wandered to the mess in the drawer. "What are you looking for?"
A heavy sigh escaped her and she patted her thighs with both hands in disappointment, letting her eyes wander over the open drawer. "Oh, I borrowed a shirt from Yoonjung and I wanted to give it back to her, but I can't find it." She looked back up at me, lifted her hand and placed it over mine. "You haven't seen it by any chance? It's black with rhinestones on the neckline."
I shook my head, because nothing like that came to mind. "No, I didn't see anything like that," I said and opened the wardrobe door. Even inside, we could only see our own clothes. "Maybe you've already given it back to her, but you've forgotten."
A slightly resigned expression appeared on her face. "I hope so. I really like Yoonjung and I don't want her to think I'm going to lose her things." She leaned against the edge of the bed and sighed again, but this time with a hint of amusement. "The lost clothes thing is almost a tradition with me." This endearing trait seemed to be a quirky touch in her life, perhaps because of her carefree nature or her tendency to make things creative. At the very least, I found it endearing.
