OPTION 2:
"...RICK.""I.. well, I think I'd probably be the most helpful with Rick, since I'm.. be—better at decorating and stuff anyway." I finally managed to muster a response, scratching the back of my head as my lips curled into a sheepish frown.
Rick's eyes barely lit up once he seemingly processed my answer, his brows quickly raising in what I assumed must have been either mild excitement or shock. The frown Kevin had on his face immediately got bigger the moment he also heard my answer—and his eyes fixed into a rather desperate glare.
Kevin spoke in an oddly desperate manner, gesticulating with his hands. "Wh—What?! Are you serious?! You can't just—"
"Kevin.." Ethan cut in—his voice low and calm still. "..they said they were gonna help Rick. So they're gonna help Rick. There's no need to get so heated over it."
"I—I wasn't even getting heated, I just—" Kevin struggled to find the words, his face flushing with a deep red color as he finally glanced away. "..ugh.."
"So.. you'll be helping Rick—right, new member?" Ethan smiled.
"Yeah.. that's right." I replied awkwardly.
"..that's good. I probably need help with this kind of thing anyway." Rick added to the conversation with a sigh, his tone still blank.
"Heh.. yeah. A little assistance with this stuff could come in handy." Ethan laughed. He then turned his head over to face Kevin, who was still pouting to himself. "Kevin—you can handle the snacks yourself, right?"
"Yeah.. its not like I haven't done it before." Kevin grumbles in response, his tone rather sharp.
"..uhh.. alright.. if you say so." Ethan mumbles—a little taken aback by his clear frustration.
After a few moments of slight silence and tension in the air, I decided to speak up to get rid of the awkwardness of the situation. It was pretty obvious Kevin was upset about not being able to get help from me over the weekend—even though I wasn't really too sure why. I mean.. he didn't really seem to like me that much anyway.
Still, I spoke up, asking—"..is.. that all we needed to cover today?"
"Mmm.. yeah! I think thats everything." Ethan says after humming in thought, his smile still on his lips. "You guys excited for the festival?"
"..I'm not really sure if I'd say I'm excited." Rick says slowly, "..but I'm kinda looking foward to it."
"Heheh.. well, that's good. What about you, new member?" Ethan then inquires in a friendly tone, turning over to face me.
"Huh—oh.. well, I.. its not really what I'm used to. But.. I'm looking foward to seeing how everything turns out." I manage to say—shrugging with a lop-sided smile.
"Heh.. thats good enough. And.." Ethan slowly turns over to face Kevin. "..Kevin? What about you?"
Kevin remains silent—his lips curled into a grumpy frown.
"..Kevin." Rick speaks.
"Wh—What?" Kevin says defensively, his tone still somewhat soft.
"I.." Rick pauses—trying to collect his thoughts. "..sorry if I.. sorry if I made you feel hurt because the new member picked me. And.. I'm sorry if it made you feel hurt about the snacks too. Your snacks are—"
"Dude, I get it. Don't apologize.." Kevin sighs roughly.
A period of quietness fills the air—Rick let's out a sigh in return. Though after a few moments, Kevin glances in his direction, mumbling in a slightly softer voice—"I'm.. kinda surprised."
