Jeff sighed and looked at his food. Without a word, he began to eat as well.
"Hmm, this is nice," Alexis commented on her food.
"This is also good," Jeff replied. "You can taste it if you want," he offered, moving the plate closer to Alexis.
She looked at the dish that she used to love. Missing the taste of it, she got a slice and took a bite.
"Yeah," she nodded after swallowing it. "I missed that taste."
Jeff smiled and reached for the wine. He poured for the two of them then handed the one to her who gobble all the lasagna she took.
"Alex, can we return to the past?" Jeff asked sincerely and suddenly that it made Alexis nearly spew the wine she was drinking.
"Please," Jeff begged. "I can't live a good life without you."
Alexis swallowed hard after looking at his desperate countenance. "Jeff, I..." she shook her head. "I'm sorry I can't do that."
"Why?" Jeff was teary-eyed.
Alexis looked away, unable to meet his pitiful eyes, but the truth must be said. "I don't love you anymore." She looked at him slowly. "I can help you as a friend, but I cannot be the one you are asking me to be."
"Can't you give me a chance?" Jeff pleaded. "One last chance. I promise I won't mess around this time, to fix everything.
"You had your chance before," Alexis replied softly but firmly. "You can still fix the mess you did. I'll support you as a friend. I believe you can do that."
"You don't understand. I need you not only as a friend but to be..."
"Jeff, what I can give you now is friendship, nothing more than that," Alexis got his point.
Jeff stared at her and a tear rolled down his cheek.
Seeing it, Alexis felt bad. "I'm sorry. I know there's someone out there that is meant for you. Someone who will give you the love that I can no longer give."
Jeff wiped his cheek and took a deep breath. He drank from his glass and silently picked up his fork and slowly took another bite from his lasagna.
Alexis' heart became heavy as she watched him. However, she must tell the truth to set him free.
Silently, she also eats more of her food before she felt the need to use the restroom.
Laying down her fork, she reached for her bag and spoke. "I'll go to the restroom first," she looked at him who only made a small nod.
She then stood and went directly to the restroom she brought out her phone that is still holding a call.
"Blynn," she called out after she put the phone by her ear. "I did the right thing, didn't I?"
Carl on the other line didn't expect her question. Why does she still ask?
"Of course you did," he replied quickly. "The truth hurts, but it will set him free."
"Yeah," Alexis laughed sadly. She just can bear to see someone hurting because of her.
"Are you okay?" Carl asked, feeling how heavy her voice is.
Alexis hummed in response as she took a deep breath. It was then that her phone signed for a low battery.
"Oh no, my battery's draining."
"Really?" Carl frowned.
"Yeah, uhm, well just end the call. Besides, I'll just finish my food and then go home," Alexis' voice returned to normal.
