:; There's things I wanna say to you
But I'll just let you live
Like if you hold me without hurting me
You'll be the first who ever did.

Hallways of Voltaire High, 11:26 AM

The usual bustle filled the hallways as students hurried between classrooms. Lily-Rose strode purposefully, her gaze fixed ahead, deliberately ignoring the curious looks cast her way.

She knew she had to be cautious, especially after promising Guillaume to have nothing more to do with that one-eyed boy.

Meanwhile, Joseph stood not far away, idly watching the comings and goings of other students.

He searched for her among the crowd. Then, his eyes finally landed on her, marching determinedly through the throng.

Without hesitation, he made his way toward her, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Are you lost, princess ?" he quipped as he approached.

"What do you want ?" she asked, her tone sharp.

He raised an eyebrow. Of course, he hadn't forgotten what had happened the previous day, the way she had grimaced when he took her arm, but he hadn't expected her to be like this with him.

He wanted to have a conversation with her about it, without showing that he cared about her.

"Nothing special, just saying hello to a classmate," he replied casually. She swallowed, remembering her promise.

"I'm going to ask you not to speak to me anymore," she declared, hoping he would understand and leave.

She was afraid of getting attached to him and her fiancé noticing. It was better for both of them not to talk anymore.

"What ? Why ?" he asked, taken aback. Joseph arched an eyebrow, surprised by her reaction.

He couldn't understand why she was reacting like this. She looked away, feeling the weight of her commitment pressing down on her.

"It's not important. Just leave me alone, please," she replied, with a hint of distress in her voice.

He stared at her for a moment, bewildered by her behavior. He wondered what he could have done wrong for her to react like this.

"Okay, if that's what you want," he finally responded, a mix of confusion and disappointment in his eyes. Then, he turned away slowly, leaving her alone.

Voltaire High, classroom 9, 1:39 PM

In the noisy classroom, she sat at her desk, engrossed in her class notes. A few rows away, Joseph leaned over his desk, casually jotting down notes. He glanced up at her.

Straightening in his chair, he decided to wait for a break between classes to approach her. When the moment came, he strode confidently toward her desk, ignoring the curious looks from their classmates.

"Princess ?" he called, but she didn't even lift her eyes from her notes.

He furrowed his brow, was this some kind of tasteless joke ?

"Is everything okay ?" he asked, trying to break through her mask of indifference.

"I told you not to talk to me," she said, her voice icy.

"Wait, is this serious ? Did I do something wrong ?" he asked, confused.

How could she act like this after he helped her with math ? After they had a good time together. Or maybe he had been mistaken ?

As she ignored him again, he continued, "Oh, you're still as charming. I'm not a monster, you know. Let's get back to the point, why this sudden hostility ?"

She suppressed an exasperated sigh, wondering how she could convince him to leave her alone.

"Because you're unbearable," she snapped, hoping her words would discourage him.

Joseph raised an eyebrow, a smirk spreading across his lips. The situation was becoming increasingly absurd.

"Unbearable, huh ? Well, that's one way of saying you're thinking about me," he retorted, leaning slightly toward her.

She felt anger rising within her at his arrogant attitude. "Don't mock me, Joseph. You mean nothing to me, just a vulgar troublemaker," she spat, hoping to hurt him enough to make him leave her alone.

Yet he seemed almost amused by her biting words. "Oh, princess, I know you don't really mean that. Deep down, I know you quite like me." He tilted his head to the side, a smirk playing on his lips.

She glared at him, but deep down, she wondered if her words were truly convincing.

"You can't ignore me forever," he continued mockingly, trying to catch her attention.

She raised an eyebrow, suppressing an exasperated sigh. "I can always try," she replied sharply.

"Come on, princess, you don't look very happy. Maybe you should smile a little more, it would do everyone good." His words made her boil with frustration. "And even if you hide behind your haughty airs, I know there's something bothering you."

"Are you mocking me ?"

Joseph raised his hands in innocence. "Not at all, I promise. I'm just saying what I see."

"What you see ?" she repeated, her eyes shooting daggers. "You see nothing at all, Joseph. You're just a stupid boy who doesn't understand a thing."

He raised an eyebrow. "Well, that's a bit harsh," he replied, his tone remaining calm.

"You want to know what I see ? Well, I see a worthless scoundrel." Lily-Rose turned her gaze away, biting her lip to restrain her growing frustration.

Why couldn't he just leave her alone ? Pirates weren't the type to give up easily, apparently.

Suddenly, a feminine voice rose behind them. "Joseph, leave her alone," Simone declared as she approached.

He turned to her, eyebrow raised. "Oh, are you jealous, Simone ?" he teased with a playful smile.

She rolled her eyes. "Lily-Rose doesn't want to talk to you, so leave her alone."

Michèle also chimed in. "Yeah, and if you keep bothering her, I might have to call my brother," she threatened sternly.

Lily-Rose watched him return to his desk. She was already starting to regret it. As she resumed her work, she couldn't help but feel his gaze on her from afar.

She looked up and met his gaze, catching a glimmer of interest in his lone eye before he looked away. What could he possibly be thinking as he looked at her like that ?
