Voltaire High, 5:30 PM

The July sun bathed the high school in its golden rays as the evening bell signaled the end of classes before the summer break.

The hallways echoed with the laughter and joyful exclamations of students, eager to leave the school behind and enjoy their well-deserved vacation.

Among the excited crowd, two figures stood out. Hand in hand, Joseph and Lily-Rose walked out of the building, their silhouettes outlined against the orange sky of the emerging twilight.

"Finally free," he murmured, a smile playing on his lips as he cast a knowing glance at Lily-Rose.

She returned his smile, her eyes shining with anticipation. "Yes, finally. I can't believe we survived this school year."

They walked side by side, savoring the gentle summer breeze that caressed their faces. Fallen leaves twirled in their wake, a light dance that seemed to celebrate their newfound freedom.

"And now, what do you plan to do during the holidays ?" he asked, his curious gaze resting on her. She thought for a moment, her fingers intertwined with his.

"I'll probably spend some time in the countryside, at my grandparents' place. They have a beautiful manor, and I love wandering around the gardens. And you ?"

Joseph shrugged, a smile playing on his lips. "Oh, I'll find something to do."

Lily-Rose raised an eyebrow. "You mean you'll get yourself into trouble, don't you ?"

He laughed, a carefree sound that echoed in the evening air. "Maybe. But that's part of the fun, isn't it ?"

She gave him a mock disapproving look. "Joseph, I've got my eye on you. No mischief during these holidays."

"Okay, okay. But you know I can't promise you much." He raised his hands in surrender.

She shook her head with a theatrical sigh, but amusement still sparkled in her eyes. "You're hopeless."

"Me ? But I'm an angel, remember ?" He gave her a falsely wounded look.

She rolled her eyes, amused by his retort. "Sure, sure. I'll take your word for it."

"You know, it wouldn't be a complete vacation without teasing you a little." She gave him a sidelong glance, a mischievous smile stretching her lips.

"Well, I guess I'll have to be on my guard then."

As they passed through the school gate, he suddenly leaned towards her. "By the way, remember when you told me you hated me the other day ?" he said lightly.

She looked at him with an amused smile. "Yes, I remember very well. Why ?"

He winked at her. "I think I'll have to make you pay for that."

Before Lily-Rose could reply, he lightly tickled her ribs, eliciting a burst of joyful laughter.

"Stop, stop !" she exclaimed between laughs, gently squirming against his attacks.

He finally stopped, a satisfied smile lighting up his face. He gave her a mischievous look. "I told you, you're going to regret it."

She rolled her eyes with a conspiratorial smile. "I highly doubt that."

Their eyes met then. Without a word, he leaned gently towards her, capturing her lips in a tender and passionate kiss. Lily-Rose responded with the same intensity, letting herself be carried away by the sweetness of their embrace. The sounds of the school faded around them, leaving room for their own universe, where only their love mattered.

When they finally parted, their breaths were synchronized, their hearts beating as one. He gently caressed her cheek, a tender smile stretching his lips.

"You're beautiful when you smile," he murmured, his eyes shining with admiration.

She blushed slightly, feeling enveloped by the warmth of his words. "And you, you're a true charmer," she replied with a smile.

Joseph gave her a falsely stern look. "Oh, don't start flattering my ego, you might not be able to get rid of me."

She burst into laughter, snuggling tenderly against him. "Promise, I'll keep my compliments to myself."

The peaceful silence that followed was interrupted by an innocent question from Lily-Rose. "Tell me, what do you think Guillaume would think if he saw us right now ?"

Joseph looked at her for a moment, then shook his head. "Stop talking about him."

She raised an eyebrow, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Oh, but I'm just teasing you a little," she said with a playful smile.

He gave her a falsely stern look. "Well, it's not working on me."

"Did I hit a nerve ?"

However, before she could continue, Joseph silenced her by kissing her again, sealing her lips with his. Words were no longer necessary as their love spoke for them.

He gently broke the kiss, locking his gaze with Lily-Rose's. "Let's stop talking about him, okay ?" he said softly.

She nodded, a tender smile lighting up her face. "Okay, no more Guillaume."

They stood there, losing themselves in each other's gaze, their connection stronger than ever.

"You know," she began, "I think we should do something really crazy during these holidays."

"Like what ? What do you propose ?"

She returned his smile. "Anywhere you want. As long as it's with you, I'm game for anything."

"Then it's a plan ?" he asked, already enthusiastic.

"It's a plan." She nodded with a radiant smile.

And so, they went off together, towards new horizons, their love burning brighter than ever. Lily-Rose felt grateful...

For you have to thank the roses, but also the thorns. Life is not a perpetual feast, it is a valley of tears, but it is also a valley of roses. And if you talk about tears, you must not forget the roses. And if you talk about roses, you must not forget the tears. Shine, dare, live.
