Entrance to Voltaire High, 8:17 AM
The winter holidays had come to an end. As the first rays of January sunlight timidly brushed the school walls, Joseph felt his heart racing. It was finally back to school, and with it, the hope of seeing the one who occupied all his thoughts : Lily-Rose.
Since their escape, he had been replaying every moment spent with her, because since that magical moment, they hadn't seen each other again, their paths seeming to diverge at the end of that adventure.
In the schoolyard, he scanned the crowd of students, looking for the one who haunted every one of his dreams, his steps almost instinctively guiding him to the spot where he had last seen her.
His heart pounded as he scanned the crowd of students, hoping to catch even a glimpse of her graceful silhouette.
And then, suddenly, like a miracle, he saw her. There, under the willow tree, she stood among a group of students. She was surrounded by her friends, including Henri, which caught his attention.
Determined to make an impression, he approached the group. "Hey, Pichon-pig, put on a few extra pounds over the Christmas holidays ?" he teased with a mocking laugh, as was his usual.
Henri blushed deeply, while a heavy silence fell over the group. But instead of the expected laughter, Joseph was surprised by Lily-Rose's firm voice : "Stop. You don't have to make fun of him."
He raised an eyebrow, not expecting her to come to his defense like this. "Why ? He's just stuffing his face all day," he retorted, trying to defend his usual teasing.
Henri looked down, but Lily-Rose stepped forward to confront Joseph and his remarks. "You're cruel," she spat out.
Joseph, used to not being intimidated, raised his eyebrows, a smirk on his face. "Oh, it's just for fun, princess. By the way, you're so noble and graceful, I'm sure you'd make a great couple with our dear Pichon-pig here," he added sarcastically, nodding towards Henri.
"I told you to stop," she replied firmly, her eyes sparking with anger.
He shrugged. "Pichon-pig and the princess, sounds like a real fairy tale, don't you think ?" he quipped with a mocking smile.
This time, she lost her patience. She firmly grabbed his arm and led him away from the crowd, her face flushed with anger.
"What are you doing ? What's your little game ?" she demanded when they were alone. He leaned towards her, offering her a view of his eyepatch, his mocking smile stretching his lips.
