ASTORIA

"Astoria, it is so good to see you." Denise closed the distance between us and wrapped her arms around me.

Her chestnut hair was in a high ponytail, the bangs covering her forehead. Denise was always dressed to impress. And today was no exception.

The black dress she had on was body con and showed all of her curves. Her silk red heels that shone on the daylight.

"It's good to see you as well." I said and tightened my fingers around the brown leather bag.

"How are you? How is married life treating you?" Well... I put on a happy smile and shrugged my shoulders innocently.

"Good. Everything's great so far." Theo didn't join me for dinner. I thought he was going to do that at least. I guess I just got my hopes up pretty quickly.

I ate alone like the rest of the days. Even today, he didn't even show up in front of me. But at least he was home.

"I'm glad. Dawn misses you."

"I miss him too." Dawn was an Arabian white horse. It was the only horse I made bond with here. He was calm and very loving.

We talked about the days I missed here. I use to volunteer three days a week. It was the best time of my life. No one bothered me here. It was just me and the horses.

I didn't particularly made friends but I was friendly enough with Denise.

"I wanted to talk to you about... the job offer. You said that you need someone for the information desk. Can I... apply for the job?" Her eyes crinkled with confusion. She placed her hands on her hips and thought for a second.

"Why would you want to work here? I mean you are married now I thought..."

"Please, I really want this job. I'm bored at home. You know how much I love this place."

"Okay I'll talk with Edward, there are couple of more people who applied for the position." A wave of relief washed over me. I mean, I don't know if I'll be the one to get the job but nevertheless, I was happy they were even going to consider me.

Edward was a good friend of my dad but I'm sure he won't make any problems.

"Thank you so much." Her lips tipped up and she nodded.

"I'll go and see Dawn now." We parted ways and I walked over to his stable. He was on the far end.

I also made some time to look at the other ones. The hallway of the barn was empty so I use that opportunity to check on all of them.

It was peaceful here.

Even though I spent a lot of time here, I never learned how to ride a horse. I was too scared to try.

I wanted to do it, but the fear stopped me every single time.

"Hello, my sweet boy." I exclaimed as soon as I glanced at Dawn. He was chewing on his food. I ran my hand over his nose and ruffled my fingers through his hair.
